I'm after a decent vinyl for recovering the seats on my bikes. The little fuckers couldn't nick them, so they whacked a crowbar through the seat coverings of both of them. Links or brand names to watch for are appreciated. I don't mind paying a bit more for decent stuff, want to make a good job of it, as one will be getting sold on soon enough. I'm wary of the cheap ebay stuff, I've not used it before, and don't know what it'll turn out like.

I bought cheapish stuff from ebay, was fine. Make sure it stretches '4 ways'.

My seat was recovered about 2 1/2 years ago. The centre area (ie where my bum resides) has developed several splits. These have not been caused by anything in my pockets. The vinyl appears to be quite stiff in that area, and I suspect that particular piece is not flexible enough. I would like to obtain some decent stuff to replace that panel with. Recommendations welcome for some really nice flexible, yet strong, material.

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/371896899119

This is what I used on the 600, happy with it. I expect the seller has more, I had to message and get it relisted to buy a second piece. I will recover the undamaged 250rr seat as well.

Go to a proper fabric shop, not some diy supercenter, one that sells fabrics for furniture, you'll find what you need there, there'll be a choice of qualities and colours.
The last lot I bought came in at less than a tenner and there is enough to do at least 4 seat covers!
The seat cover I made with this has been on the bike for 3 years with no problems!

We have a couple of those within a decent distance. Never thought of that. Cheers.

NOT an expert upholsterist
But I've seen a thin layer of white wispy 'stuff' between the foam and cover presumably to allow the cover to move slightly.
I assumed (rightly or wrongly) this wee bit of slippage helps
to prevent localised straining leading to cracks and splits
so I reused it when fitting my own cover.

I used the stretchy vinyl stuff from a local fabric wholesalers in Liverpool Abakhan.

It was easy to fit, but has only lasted a year, its seems to delaminating?

Ah. Abakahn in Mostyn is where I was planning on going...

May just get some cheap "4 way" stuff from Fleabay then, see what happens.

That could be as much to do with the foam underneath being passed it best and squashing up too much, rather than supporting you.
