Why not black cabs? The bus companies are expected to buy new eco vehicles.

Diesel cars over 4 years old taxed out - exception made; black cabs. Remind me, what fuel do they use again, and how old are they on average?

Talk about avoiding the run-in.

Well, we know what will happen if there is an attempt to force them to do anything. They will blockade London like they always
do and since they are TFL governed that = a shitstorm for Khan. Not to mention the cost to all the people whos perfectly
functional vehicles are now obsolete and as such worthless in London. They will be sold elsewhere in the country no doubt
which in essence moves the problem elsewhere. And all the brand new vehicle people will have to buy are manufactured with
no environmental impact are they? It's as much of a crock of shit as the push to get us all in diesels in the 90s.
Linked in with this are the new RFL tariffs on new vehicles which have been slipped in with barely a mention.

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-vehicle-tax-rates-from-1-april-2017

After all they have to stop people buying cars like my old Fiat 500 with its £30 RFL and just banging round the capital in those.
Inb4 it's also made a rolling timescale.

New black cabs must be petrol-electric hybrids from January 2018.

Minicabs, many of which are white, get another 2 years' grace on that.

Wonder if this covers agricultural vehicles? Quite like the idea of riding a Massey Ferguson to work.

I'm not the only one who thinks it's a piss take. What's to stop cabbies running their diesel cabs into the ground
before buying a new fangled one?

Nothing, yet. However, the new ecomobiles should cost the same to buy or lease (thanks to being subsidised by taxation) and less to run.

I imagine that once Khan oozes off to become leader of Al Labour, that the next mayor will crack down on them sooner rather than later.

Black cabs are being usurped by Uber anyway, so maybe focus your ire on them and their swarm of clownmobiles.

Ex London bus driver Roger, I hate cabbies with an unearthly passion and would happily watch every Taxi-vader burn on a pyre.

I can't get my head round the new DVLA tax rules.

£140, £130 or £0 PLUS £310 a year for 5 years? Then back to £140, £130 or £0???????????????

Fuck that, I won't own a car for 6 years after it was built.

They're mainly driving Prius' anyway. Black cabs are stinking hateful things, making them exempt makes a mockery of the whole thing. Anyway I'm ULEZ bike and rage cage ready, still want a compliant 2-stroke though Wink

The only reason bikes are unreliable is they are poorly maintained by people with low skill levels, is that you then? Mr. Green

Well, since it's either that or buy a new-ish main big bike, it's worth a look. maybe something from the USSR, after all I want the most pollution per mile possible.

Massive bawwing (on the local news) about how the government promoted diesels, and now they're penalising them. Wasn't the tax break in 2001? Seems like a bit of a non-argument to me.
