True so true, I had two Suzuki A100's , a Suzuki AP50 , and a Yamaha FS1e and all of them went for scrap Crying or Very sad
I just couldn't sell them.

I even tried to give one of them away, but it wasn't wanted?

Half a million miles on any bike is an achievement. On an RXS that’s pretty legendary.

I owned 3 over the years, but find I’m not particularly misty-eyed about eventually selling up. My original 1990 blue one was my first bike, bought in 1993 and sold 18 months later in part-ex for an air cooled Yam Diversion.

I then bought a 1986 red one as a spare bike and to get some friends through their tests. I tarted that up in 2006 after years of neglect. I picked up a 3rd RXS, a red 1994 stolen/recovered that was good cosmetically, but mechanically shagged. I swapped all the good bits from the 94 onto the 86 and ended up with a really nice little runner.

The workshop tinkering was fun, however the joy of riding it had faded. The 2 stroke whiff was nice, and the bike was as good as a 1980’s stroker commuter could get, but I got more fun from my other bikes. My RXS may have been a good example of the breed, but ultimately it was a bit underbraked and the electrics were rubbish, even in good nick.

I sold it in 2012 to another BCFer, who I think sold it on again shortly afterwards. It was still very low mileage for the age, on around 24,000 when I sold it. Looking on the DVLA site it’s been on the road ever since and racked up a fair few miles. Last test a year ago it was on 43,000. Wonder what the miles will be on this year’s test?

Currently around 1800 miles from the half million landmark and the old girl isn't making it easy. Have developed an odd very rough tickover the past week or so. Quite harsh vibes through the bars - this goes away as the revs increase. Mains, big end, barrel and piston all seem OK. Well, huge amount of gas is getting past the rings but that's been the case for the past 10,000 miles Laughing

Must admit, I would be quite upset not to make it to the 500,000 mark now.

Yeah, I'm another one that says I passed my test on one of them when I see them. Thumbs Up

Very impressive. I'm still impressed when I see cars at 200,000. A cheap 80s tiddler? Congrats on keeping it alive so long!

Mileage as of the end of today's journey is 499,979. So I should break the half million mark tomorrow, disasters permitting. The final 1500 or so miles have been a slog, with the motor getting more and more noisy, and the pipe needing frequent bodging to stop it blowing. Can't see the old girl going on much longer - I had hope to reach 520,000 miles, which would mean I had done over 500K myself. Not going to happen without major tinkering.
