I have decided to do my DAS upgrade instead ! Surprised
Move up to a 500 next Thursday Thumbs Up

I sat on one last night (Suzuki)....my feet are totally flat on the floor...and the weight is managable. Cool

Very excited...glad I am going for it..finally...
I was going to do my A2 then get a 400 or similar..depending on insurance...but thought...why the hell don't I just go for DAS !?

I am a person who 'bores' very easily anyway...but I have had 6 weeks with the CG now, and quite frankly, am fed up of it.... it is like a moped Shocked
I hate sitting there...throttle out...like a lawnmower...I hate not being able to overtake cars that are doing 50-55...

Finances allowing, I would like to keep the CG for a winter/commute bike....but we shall have to see.

Anyways...my instructor last night said yes to my upgrade straight away...but sadly I will lose him Crying or Very sad ...and my 500 instructor is a woman Shocked

I hope we get on...'gelling' with people is important to me.

What pi**es me off is that I have just got u-turns down on the CG...now I have to do them on a bluddy 500 ! Laughing

Wink xx

Good on you. Same thing crossed my mind..... going through the stress of a test I figured I may as well do it on a big bike and have a full license.

So, any idea on time scale for doing DAS? or would you rather not say?

U turns are piss easy on a 500. More weight, more torque, more stability. Thumbs Up

Well...I have been training for the A2 test on the 125, 2 hours a week, for the past 5 weeks....
I guess I will need about another 5/6 weeks on the 500 to get up to pass level....maybe a couple more..who knows...I don't know how it is going to go... Confused

My instructor reckons I have taken to it like a duck to water considering I had never even sat on a bike before, until my CBT 7 weeks ago....so I am just going to keep getting 'bum on bike' time Wink

lol really? um... I managed to break the bike school's 500 I was on by trying to U-turn, riding into the kerb and falling off Embarassed There is nothing worse than having to get back to the training centre pillion on your instructors bike Shocked

(OK Jodie so maybe you don't want to hear stuff like that! Laughing )

go for it! Older middlewieght bikes are cheap to buy and (usually) insure. plus you get something that will keep up with the traffic on major roads, carry a pillion, some luggage etc. Thumbs Up

Jodie,

If you don't mind me asking - why are you spreading out your lessons?

I would have thought that doing your DAS in a week and then the test would be better. It's very in depth and I imagine you would make much more rapid progress than a couple of hours a week.

Also when I did mine the instructor advised the guy I was training with not to ride his 125 whilst learning on the 500 as it would be counter productive.

Just a couple of thoughts.

Skillz. Thumbs Up Wink

Personally, I found the little GS CBT bike to be wobbly and horrible. I spent the next 2 days worrying about getting on the 500 thinking it would be wobblier and horribler... got on it and went 'aaaaah' cos it felt like a 'proper' bike. U turns on the GS were more luck than skill, the ER5 I could just crack it to full lock and chug round on the clutch. Smile

I don't think I've done a single U turn since passing my test though. Rolling Eyes

I don't think that there's a sports bike available that has sufficient steering lock to allow U turns on anything narrower than the M1. I think they only keep it in the test as a low speed control exercise, cos it's of no practical use to anyone.

Good Luck with the DAS. Thumbs Up

Agree Thumbs Up, that's why I upgraded many years ago.
Although my CG could get 60-65mph on the clock it was near impossible to overtake any cars only doing 50-55 as the acceleration was so slow Sad

Agree that if you can do your DAS in one group of sessions it'll be better. Although it may be a large chunk of money to say goodbye to in one go.

Good luck Thumbs Up

I cannot devote a whole week of my life to doing a DAS....
I need to spread it out...
I have a child and commitments..
If I was single...had no kids or excellent free childcare...had no job (or lots of holidays)...no partner...no housework...no pets....no social life...then maybe I would consider it.

The money is not an option....I will pay whatever.

As for not riding the 125 as it will be counter productive...
it's a bit tough then isn't it !! Laughing

Sometimes we all have to do things differently due to circumstance.

Fair enough, I wasn't having a dig. I realise that others have different commitments. Could you not bung the sprog in a rucksack and take him/her with you Wink

But best of luck with it, my DAS was extremely enjoyable we basically just had a week of rideouts with a bit of low speed practice thrown in.

Jodie, go for it if you can. I went straight for my DAS luckily I could just take a week off work and did it in 4 days and spent the 5th just blasting around.

PS Yellow bikes are faster than blue Wink
