Indeed!

That was a race meeting, where they normally don't mind too much on the cooling down lap... unless you crash Smile.

Again "starting out" (so not at balance point) and "sensibly" (not coming down with the wheel crossed up).

Confused Starting out's the most dangerous time. Most people I know flipped a bike early on in their 'wheeling career', and they weren't trying to be a 12 o'clock boy.

Famous crash on a slowing down lap: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkOSJr61zX0

Pretty far from 'sensibly', then, I'd say!

I have flipped a few wheelies.

First was close to balance point.

I wasn't covering the rear brake.

My body moved back a bit which knocked the bike front first to second gear.

This had happened a few times before, but the previous times it'd gone into neutral not second.

That's pure stupidity and could have been easily avoided.

When you start to be keeping it up near the balance point, it does offer more risk and thus need extra care (not covering the rear brake appropriately is the cause of at least one other 'incident' for me Smile ).

What's sensibly then, 6 inches off the ground? Smile There's enough videos of people losing it very early after getting the front wheel up.

Learning to cover the rear brake, progressing a little at a time rather than going high straight off.
Not deciding to dump the clutch at max revs when the most you've tried it before was at 1/3 revs and so.

All the sorts of thing you're likely to do on an expensive wheelie school, actually Smile.

Its like learning to walk, if you try and run before anything your going to fall over, only time ive come close to flipping a bike is a dodgy 1st to 2nd gear change touch wood

I've inadvertently had the front wheel up under very hard 2nd gear acceleration on my 700cc Deauville a few times.

It's such a heavy bike that I'd have thought it would fuck the forks coming down after getting the wheel up to a decent height, i weight nearly 100kg too.

I've trashed a fair amount of bodywork, cans, fork seals and footpegs in my yoof getting it horribly wrong. My first wheelie was inadvertent (KX85, big handful, dump clutch), I even managed to ride it a fair way before flipping it and ending up in a wet ditch. I sussed it out eventually, but wheelies on the road resulted in bans and clusterfucked insurance.

I did see a mate pop a stock GL1000 on it's back wheel down the entire length of the strip at a Run what 'ya brung, which got plenty of cheers and claps.
