Don't believe everything you read. Wink I'm pretty well insulated from foreigners where I live now. By the time they
get to my patch in any irritatingly large numbers I'll be too old to care about it. And you'll still be uptight and alone.

Simple advice - stop worrying about it and if you get the chance to sink the pink and it feels right, just do it. If a relationship is to be had then it will happen, and if not....

I haven't mentioned money once in this thread yet you're perfectly willing to make assumptions.

Previous relationships that you've disclosed have been with unabashed gold diggers and prostitutes.

Now you've (notionally) hooked up with a high earning career woman who is in largely unavailable to you either physically or emotionally.

Sometimes you have to step back a bit to see the pattern.

This honest question is still hanging: what do you want from a life partner?

I ain't going near that shit between you and GR Laughing Some of it is funny as stereotypes IS funny but come on ffs you pair.

As to your Dr friend, from what I have read of you individually, she sounds perfect.

You are lateral or up financially and older, she is lateral or down financially and younger. She is independent as are you, and non-clingy. If your goals align it sounds promising. I would be more interested in character.

Are you Shagging? this is important to our understanding of the relationship dynamic.

If you are, are you the only person she's "seeing"?

No pics are important...

Bloody NHS!

Complicatedly-related-but-vaguely-on-topic: I picked up a Chinese prostitute a nice Oriental girl the other night (from a small hotel in Sussex Gardens). Her name was Lucky. I thought it was rather sweet of her parents to have named her that.

I didn't think I should mention the ball-busting one he was dating earlier, as I thought it would be inappropriate and unseemly to rub it in about the possibility of failed previous relationships, as OP even if not Itchy, might still be stinging (in more ways than one) from the loss of the previoius girlfriend.

Itchy, do you perchance have a white coat fetish? ( #teasing )
Cos its a bugger to find those white coats nowadays, with the NHS shirtsleeve policy, if she has one, they will be worth their weight in gold by now. I know a dominatrix who is gagging (oh, I made a joke) to get her hands on one for her medical fetish customers.

Married one last summer...

we were together all through her first career as a physio, then all through medical training, f1/f2 and now she's an st3. which is her final year of specialty training.

no discipline has 13 years specialty training. not heard of any which fell out of 3-4 frame... then you work as a registrar until you've been out of uni for 10 years. at which point you're an st8, and that's the point you can take up consultant posts if you want to/are any good... so depending on what she's hoping to specialise in, the shifts will get better and calm down.

she's had some shit rotations through a&e and psych (this still has shifts which run friday to monday at times). they were shitty with her in obs and gynae about dropping her on call nights meaning she was still doing them at 37 weeks pregnant. lot of the disciplines don't have nights and silly rotas though, so stick at it if you like her... it can be a strain, but what relationship isn't at times?

Surgery goes to ST8 and the majority do a fellowship on top and a couple of years for a research degree (MD/PhD) in the middle. It's common to take up a surgical consultant post in your late 30s.

Yep. My father found and married one. So I'm sure there are many more...

Stop trying so hard, stop over thinking stuff. I can't see a problem in getting a female, even street sleepers get laid.

just because it's common to take up research it doesn't mean it's mandatory, or part of the training program... as far as I've seen, bearing in mind my wife is a doctor as are all her mates from uni who have scattered all over the country into all manner of specialties... is that ST8 is the magic number for being allowed to take up a consultant post. the GMC seems to back that too... though I've never looked exhaustively. of course, few do at such an early point in their career.

as you said, some take up master degrees at various times (fellowships form part of the day to day job. we know several fellows). some take time to work abroad (during which no progress is made in your training). so as you said, late 30s would be the norm. 33 being the very earliest possible.

I'll be applying to a grad medical degree myself in a years time, so it's always interesting to hear views outside our immediate circle.

fair comment I guess... but I would suggest there isn't a relationship without it's own unique form of stress and strain involved. that's just life.

You're both forgetting that notwithstanding all their plans at medical school to become world-leading brain surgeons, something like half of doctors end up as GPs; and if you look at female docs who want kids and a decent family life, the proportion will be even higher. Plenty of exams still, but no need for fellowships, PhDs etc there. Post medical school, that's 2 years foundation job followed by 3 years GP training before you're a fully qualified GP.

Personally - I married a doc 30-odd years ago, and certainly no regrets here; my daughter (who is herself in a strong, long-term relationship) is about to start the GP training stage. I think the message is that it's perfectly possibly if you want it to be?
