Whilst we all like to think of ourselves as the masterrace, I believe that we are not all perfect. With this in mind I think we should have a slightly self mocking thread discussing the stupid things that bikers new and old do.

I shall start:

They tend to buy the same model bike they trained on.

They buy matching leathers to their bike.

They only ride in the summer.

They think they are in the MotoGP whenever they are on a big roundabout.

They assume other road users have seen them and know they are there, even when proceeding at double the traffic speed, then get butthurt when it turns out they haven't.

What a fucking shit thread.

1. What's it got to do with you what bike anyone buys?

2. What's it got to do with you what leathers anyone buys?

3. So fucking what! I used to ride all year round until i came to the conclusion that i didn't enjoy riding on shitty roads with low levels of grip, salt that corrodes the bike and is a cost i could do without. Also i have bad circulation in my hands so it makes riding in freezing cold weather even less enjoyable, plus i have a car.

4. And you ride around "victor vertical" style?

They arrange a group ride of them and their 3 friends to a biker cafe, and the day then consists of 28 minutes riding there and back, and 3 hours of them being snooty in their clique looking down the noses at younguns whilst drinking coffee and smoking fags like boring old wankers.

I don't post footage online and I'm not about to start either. I'm not a "vlogger", I'm not interested in how many views it can get, the camera is there to act as a dashcam. The copper seemed to have other things he wanted to go and do, and, rightly, said we were both at fault - him for being in my lane, me for turning around and "having a word". He left it at that.

Old biker guys who think they are better than everyone else. Ride a range of bikes, usually a 3/4 or flip up lid, refuse to nod to anyone, refuse to say hi or be friendly to anyone. Think of everyone else as reckless and anyone under 45 is a dangerous yuuuve that you should treat like shit.

(Obviously there are exceptions, also worth noting im not talking middle aged riders either, they are usually nice and love a chat.)

Buying a Harley Davidson and all the branded gear to wobble around on a handful of rides a year. Has to be the worst thing a new rider can do?

Something that gets much worse every spring weekend is groups of riders on sportsbikes trying to keep up with each other through traffic.
These are typically immaculate clean bikes and one piece suits look like bought yesterday - don't give the impression of being terribly experienced.

Last time I was out a bunch just had to force to front of queue at lights but there wasn't space for them all to tuck in which briefly delayed an ambulance in full emergency mode trying to get through from other way - they seemed to be unable to hear or see it like everyone else

Most likely he was off to pick up another biker from similar group.
This all looks bad enough when on a bike yourself.
If you read comments after inevitable carnage reports in local online press next day, it's easy to find "organ donor season" remarks.

Bikes are vulnerable even when not taking pointless stupid risks.
At weekends a lot of the car drivers are distracted, semi-lost and inexperienced - or consider themselves god-like immortals too.
Even a slight incident where you don't get hurt, the insurance procedure will mess up most of the year and make you lose the will to live.

This annoys me as well, you have to be even more vigilant when the seasonal heroes come out. I dislike everything about other bikers, although cagers are mongs they're somewhat predictable. Other bikers are c**ts, indicating right so they overtake on the right, or a bus pulls in and the bike behind chooses that moment (when you're obviously going to go round) to try and nip past.

I hate you all Very Happy

Whatever!

Don't really know, or care, why any of those things have a negative vibe.
Do what you want to do, as long as it's not interfering with anyone else and as long you're not constantly posting "look at me" threads about those things then why would anyone care?

I'm quite intrigued where your gap lies between 'older bikers' and 'middle-aged riders'!? Very Happy

Ask for advice on a motorcycle forum but ignore all responses because they don't agree with your pre-decided choice. EVERYTIME!!

"No don't buy a 125 on finance, get a cheap 125 do full test and get etc. etc."

EVERY FUCKING TIME.

I think you (and a couple of others) are missing the 'self mocking' part.

It's only a bit of fun ffs, go and read another thread that pleases you if you dont want to read this one. I don't remember making this thread a mandatory read/like/involvement one, so feel free to fk off.

Making friends and meeting people ...

... by steering hard right and braking hard at the same time at a junction,

new friends being the nice couple who helped me get the bike upright and hung onto it while I got it on the side stand.
Lady also handed me some bits of broken plastic 'I might need'
