I know you can ride to a pre-booked MOT but what are the constraints around that? If I drop my bike at the garage tomorrow for an MOT booked for Wednesday is that permissable?

Slightly paranoid about this one as I picked up 6 points and a whacking great fine for an IN10 in my youth and don't want another one! Would have been cheaper to be caught drink driving Sad

Someone might know the actual official legal requirements/definitions...

But I used to stupidly let bike get out of MOT period due to idiocy/forgetfulness so would have to ride it there, once after being SORN for a while. Generally my feeling from talking to a few bobby pals was that provided you don't go out your way to find an ANPR camera and you aren't crossing the country then you won't have any problems.

If by some very small chance You got pulled any reasonable copper would let it go - maybe if they are totally retentive about it check with the garage it's booked or hell they could even follow you there... but really would have to catch them on a bad day for them to throw the book at you? Whether it's booked for the next day or not don't think it makes much difference (if it was in 3 months time probably won't appear as reasonable).

Legally you might be totally fine in which case above is moot - but I've never heard of someone who is respectful and genuine having any issues. But cameras obviously lack that discretion...

I'm sure cleverer people can give you the law on it.

The only thing it allows you to do is to ride without VED. The bike must be insured (check that your cover isn't conditional on it having a current MOT if yours has expired) and roadworthy.

Given that we're only talking about VED here, I think you'll be fine. On the teeny tiny chance that you're tugged or ANPR pinged, sod off any FPN, go not guilty, and get the garage to say that it was booked in.
