Traded the Honda CB1000R for a Yamaha FJR 1300, Honda was fun and chuckable, but it was also cold and wet as had no fairing, not only that Wife and youngest both decided they liked to ride pillion, (both tall so knees up by their chin on back of CB) so i needed a bike fit for purpose, tried a few including the Versys 1000 that I thought was 'the one' turned out I was wrong Kawa was a decent bike, but it didn't grab me, also tried the GTR, but too heavy and wide between the legs, handling was a bit 'juggernaut' too, youngest and I went out for a test on the FJR and when we came back my mate pointed out that my smile was bigger than my face, anyway deal was done and I picked it up Good Friday.

Done about 500 miles on it over the weekend, (it was a year old with 850 miles on it as a demonstrator) including a wet Easter Sunday Charity in run in falkirk along with 467 other bikes (police escort the lot) Yamaha is fast (very) comfy and has luggage, and electrically adjustable screen and cruise control even make the motorways bearable, I absolutely love it and we are already planning some long weekends away, including an anticlockwise (wife's choice i planned to do it clockwise) run of the North Cast 500.

Great choice of bike. I've had mine for nearly 6 years and it's the best all round bike Ive had in close to 40 years riding. Has taken me and the wife to the far corners of Europe and never missed a beat.

Enjoy it and enjoy the NC500 - watch for cops - they see it as a nice little earner Wink

OTOH, I did large sections of the western and northern parts of it last year and don't recall seeing any major police presence anywhere, and certainly none looking to catch traffic offenders (admittedly didn't do the A9 down the east coast). Maybe it depends on when you do it. I found great weather for it in May, and when I went back again at the start of October. Once you get to the remoter parts in the west and north, I think there isn't enough traffic for them to be wasting their time on.

Didn't see a single copper when I did the NC500 last August. Avoid the A9 south of Inverness and you'll be right. Your wife has made a good shout - the east is good, but a bit dull compared to how brilliant the top and the west are, so you'll be saving best for last!

Great bike to be doing it on as well - enjoy!

Excellent bikes the FJR. Was one I was thinking about when I bought the Trophy. Just a little too much of the sports tourer for me though.

Oh, and it doesn't have a stereo Cool

LOL. But I have one at home (have a Cardo and use with in ear phones, that way no one complains about my taste in music. Just heading out in half an hour.
