I'm in the process of doing something awful. Learning to car. Theory test it was today. Back to the same shitty testing centre I passed motorcycle theory at in the days of grainy staged video. New haz-per is nicely rendered, walking animations have a frame doubling in them as they loop, but more annoyingly there's massive screen tearing issues. It's really distracting and pulls the eye away from scanning the screen.

Anyone else had this screen tearing issue?

I attempted to complain at the reception desk after the event. Much fake searching for the correct form. Eventually a rather old man in a cheap suit was fetched out who told me I couldn't make a complaint because it was a fault that I should have raised during the test. I said it was definitely a complaint about the facilities as the problem is down to improper setup of the equipment or under-specified equipment. Suitman informed me that nobody had ever complained about the computers before, I asked whether that was because they had obstructed the complaints protest previously and he walked off on me. From there is was pretty much being stonewalled.

So how do I go about effecting change upon this? Whilst this just pissed me off, I have at least enough experience of gaming on kit I had neither the permission nor skill and experience to fix to not look at the tearing. I'm not sure experience of Unreal Tournament should be a requirement.

And now for your amusement I shall share the question I got wrong. I knew I got it wrong at the time. (Letters added becasue no ticky box.)

A car pulls out in front of you from a side road on your left and you are required to brake hard, what should you do? (choose one)
A) Sound horn,
B) flash lights repeatedly,
C) Ignore the incident
D) move to the right hand side of the road

So which answer did you give? Laughing

And re the screen problem, just book another attempt, go to a different test centre if it'll make you feel better.

I'm guessing the 'correct' answer is to ignore the incident. It's a bloody stupid question really, but many of them are, I think the test designers chose a number 'x' out of thin air then thought up 'x' questions to ask. When they ran out of sensible questions they made up increasingly stupid ones till they reached 'x'.

Increase your stride, bring your velocipede along-side his chaise, and give the horse a damn good thrashing with your cane.

C is the answer they want. I answered D because i'm a pedant and given no option to brake as required it seems like the way to not die. I couldn't bring myself to tick C. Also option n+1 required: whine about it on BCF

This isn't failure rage. I passed reassuringly well. I'm just entertaining the notion of burning down an awful testing centre.

Where is the fun in that? Sad

A couple of years ago, I had a halfwit object to me pulling out. - I did so because just the other side of the junction there were a couple of stationary cars queued at a red pedestrian crossing light. Halfwit thought he would accelerate to give me a scare. How I laughed when he ploughed into the back of the queue. Happy days Very Happy
