Okay, thought I'd start a thread, as my Pit bike SM built thread is mega long, and most of the pictures do not work anymore.
This years BMB, I decided to sign up to, bought an annual license and transponder.
Missed the first round, which was on Mother's Day. But I did make the second round, which was last weekend at Teeside Autodrome. Way up North, in some run down old business park.
We drove up there on the Friday to get a good spot in the paddock.
Nearly 7 hours of driving, the van had it's work cut out.
Bike went in the caravan, so did the generator, and all my tools in the back of the van.

On the Friday, they were running a track day for cars.

Set the caravan up for the evening

Bike prept and ready to practice:

There were probably 150 bikes there.
Over 6 classes.
I ride in the Pit-Bike Open class. (Up to 200cc, and 12" wheels)
My bike is a Mini-Pit (The only one in the class), and 190cc 4v Anima powered.
I was up against a few other mid-sized pit bikes, one which also had a 190 Anima.
A Mini-GP bike, also Anima Powered. And there was a KX85 out, and a KTM85, both of which fucking flew!
Practice day went great. Sun was shining, I was on Medium compound Slicks all day. Got my lap times down to a respectable 1:20. Pushed hard to get into the teens, but just couldn't knock off the extra couple of tenths.
(as a comparison, the BSB riders who come on the Honda CRF150s make 1:14 a lap)
https://scontent-lht6-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t31.0-8/17972050_461875270830170_4777784742155438720_o.jpg?oh=72fbfa2bbea8fb87955c7d394c190155&oe=598171F8
Tiny bike and big power. There is a chicane which goes into an off-camber, uphill section. As you change from left, to right, it was almost impossible not to have the front lift.

Because the class numbers are low in our class, and the CRF150 class. They send us out together.
During practice, I managed to latch onto one of the CRF150s and keep up throughout a full session, which was pretty cool, as they are making way more power than my little bike, and have far superior suspension.
https://scontent-lht6-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t31.0-8/17880352_461842240833473_6698551491830311194_o.jpg?oh=0e5c57e49492ef65508cf20b2d720dc3&oe=59800BC3
Knocked it on the head late afternoon on the Saturday. Happy with my riding, and the bikes set up.
Woke up Sunday morning, and it was damp. Struggling to decide on tyres. I went with a soft compound, slick on the front, and kept the medium on the rear.
Warm up went perfect.
Then for qualify. I came off 4 times, it'd started to rain on the 1st lap, and it was impossible to keep upright.
So rather than keep going and risk breaking the bike, I came off, and just took the hit, qualified 2nd from last.
Fitted my wet up front, but was advised by the pros, unless it's soaking, dont run a wet rear, as it'll cook. So I went with Soft compound slick on the rear.
Which was fine, for the first few laps of my first race. But then it started to absolutely piss it down.
Pushing hard, I managed to finish a respectable 3rd place in my class.
But, lap times were up by nearly 10 seconds, Pretty tough first race.
https://scontent-lht6-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/17991154_462966547387709_2397395709333738180_n.jpg?oh=e0e3680d60575e0ec728086e388ae74e&oe=5994EA45
So, I made a couple of suspension changes, and fitted wets front and rear for the second race.
PMT Wet's, are fucking amazing. That's all I can say.
Was getting front wheel lift, mid corner, while riding through standing water.
https://scontent-lht6-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/18033292_462961244054906_5718039347349727942_n.jpg?oh=3552ea2cdb9aed533b21cae9686b6218&oe=594E7D5A
Fort hard again, managed to finish a very respectable first place. Passing the KX85, and the other 190cc pit bike on the last lap.
https://scontent-lht6-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t31.0-8/17966922_462354797448884_3376555724902309967_o.jpg?oh=b00466a79ad46c09a661f3680a8aa25e&oe=59854632
The next round is at Whilton Mill, but I wont be making it as I am on holiday.
But I will be at the round after that, which is at Lydd, nice and local to me.
Cant wait.
For anyone interested, here is the onboard footage I captured when battling it out with a CRF150. It's the only footage I took all weekend as the Go-Pro gets in the way a bit on my chest.

Spent an hour yesterday giving the bike a good clean over.
Back on the slicks now, and I've got another wheel on order, which I will ship up to my Grandads for converting to a rear. That'll give me 6 wheels, 3 front and 3 rears, so I can have all my tyres built up on rims ready to go. It'll save having to quickly change tyres if the weather changes.

They have quite a lot of classes.
Bambino Class, which is 6 to 10 years. 90cc pit bike.
Junior 140 class, which is 9 to 15 years.
Vets, which is 40 plus.
And a load of classes in between.
So there is literally racing for anyone, of any age.
This is my pal Jay's young lad. He is 6 years old, and currently sitting in 2nd place in the Bambino Class.

Race Report for Lydd (Round 4)
Race 1 - 1st Place
Race 2 - 2nd Place
Overall Result of 2nd Place for the Round.
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/18740560_485088871842143_7438805565833213737_n.jpg?oh=8669a37a93a239c0d758d5df2a9f9600&oe=599EE601
On the whole, Lydd is a fucking amazing circuit. It's a real shame they only run the bikes there once a year.
For such a flat track, it's so demanding, and your lines & smoothness are vital for a good lap time.
Saturday started off with an immense rain shower, with an impressive sound and light show to go with it.
Flash floods, the track was covered in standing water, and we were in limbo what to do.
Some riders sat it out, and waited til the 2nd session.
As Lydd was my first time, it was important I got all the track time I could to learn the circuit.
So I stuck my wets on, and waited for our class to get called onto the holding area.
As it happens, the rain stopped, we had some scorching sunshine, and the fucking track dried out, leaving me with 2 options. Finish my session, and absolutely destroy £140 of tyres.
Or come in.
So I feebly rode the rest of the lap, and retired to the paddock to fit my slicks back on.
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t31.0-8/18700617_482868165397547_7226771266650348340_o.jpg?oh=ba3102a4a4d12f79e18d02663e5acb03&oe=59E90B8A
As the practice day went on, my lap times came down from 48.8sec a lap, to some mid 46's.
This sort of timing was putting me about mid-field in the open class.
Still a good 3.5 seconds behind the Honda CRF150s though.
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t31.0-8/18738899_483183245366039_1162191883887703316_o.jpg?oh=8783f8cb2b4ee797881d92646725a20f&oe=59E770A8
Race day:
During the morning warm up session, another CRF150 arrived to race. Having not practiced the previous day, he was running a little slower than the front runners, which gave me a good opportunity to latch on for a few laps, learn some better lines, and just grow some confidence in keeping on the power mid-corner. Mentality of "If he can grip, why cant I?"
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t31.0-8/18739242_484095845274779_3314835191589681194_o.jpg?oh=092b88b6feccee8c835f052d7c5470b9&oe=59E86CB5
Needless to say, in the first race, when he had some faster CRFs to chase, I didn't stand a chance of keeping up.
Qualify:
Went out all guns blazing, tried to pick a CRF to follow and get a semi-decent position on the grid.
After about 4 laps, my clutch let go, and I had to limp back to the paddock to check the damage.
But, quite impressively, I qualified with a 47.3 sec best, putting me in 7th overall on the grid (out of 10), but 2nd in the pit bike class, the first 5 bikes were CRFs)
Damage was not much, clutch had gotten too hot. A quick oil change and the bike was back in action.
(Jim fueling up the YCF184)

Race 1:
I got off to a good start. Running on the Soft slicks, once I had 2 laps of heat into them, I could really get the hammer down.
I pulled a good lead on Les and Jim, who were running behind me on the grid, but Nathan Drury, got a flying start and managed to run with the CRF150 back markers.
I held on for the first lap, which gave me a best lap time, of 45.6sec (Well happy! ), but it was short lived, and the fast boys progressively got further away until I could no longer hang on.
After about lap 7, Nath had a little off, and I managed to catch up, and get ahead before he was on the bike and back in the race.
Jim and Les followed me through, putting Nathan at the back, but over the next 3 laps he'd managed to make up 2 places, and was well on the way to catching me back up. He's one fast rider.
Last lap board came up, I had a cheeky glance over my shoulder, saw Nath was a good 3 or 4 corners back, so I knew I had 1st place in the bag.
I backed off a tad, to make sure I didn't do anything silly or come off the bike under pressure.
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t31.0-8/18815037_2000183480201797_259816958431006473_o.jpg?oh=50a248db550d365533cf3c63d3b13040&oe=59E67520
Race 2:
Literally 5 minutes before our slot, it started to rain lightly.
Jim stuck with his Soft Slicks, but I jumped the gun and stuck my R Slicks on. This is a super sticky soft tyre which is great in the damp, but literally melts in the dry if it's above 10 degrees track temp.
We got down to the holding area, I had a look around and all the lads were still running Soft Slicks, and not the R's like me, Which instantly put me on the back foot in my mind. Little bit nervous as I had a place to hold onto.
As we did our sighting lap, the rain had completely stopped, sun was out, and track was dry again. FFS!
Took my place on the grid, the flag dropped, and we hit the first corner.
Instantly I knew id fucked up. The front was like jelly, and as it warmed up, it progressively got worse, leaving me no choice but to fall in behind Les, and ride it out in 3rd place.
I had Jim taking this opportunity to sit right on my back tyre, as he is usually quite well matched with Les time wise, and every corner, I had him trying to make a pass on me.
My mind was telling me to hold it out, keep blocking Jim's lines, and ride out a 3rd place finish, but heart told me to go for silver.
9 laps down, a few failed attempts to pass Les, but on the 2nd corner of the last lap, I out-braked him into the sweeping right hander, took a wide line, which put him back in front as we came out the other side, but this move then forced Les to the outside of the next corner, which gave me the better line to pull through and shut the door on him.
6 corners to go, all I had to do was keep them two behind me.
Which did happen, and I came home with a 2nd place.
Well chuffed!

(Me hanging on to the back of Les' bike, probably quite early on in the Race as Jim is quite a way behind.)

(And the final corner, to the finish line, me in 2nd place, Les behind me in 3rd, and a very angry Jim in 4th place. )

It's a shame the open class is so small these days. Most people run in the stock classes now.
I'm gonna see how LLandow plays out, and if the open class doesnt pick up, I'm going to seriously consider selling the Daytona engine, and buying a new, Stock YX160 to run with the busier group.
Admittedly I'll be battling mid-field, which will be about 19/20th place (out of 40+ bikes), but it'll be a hell of a lot more fun than battling for a podium among 6 or 7 bikes.
I've got some Go-Pro footage to sort out but I'll upload some when it's done. ____________________ - Honda XL125S - CBR400 NC29 - VFR400 NC30 - CBR400 NC29 - TL1000R - TeeZeR Pit! - Bandit 12 - YZF450 - LuckyMX125 Pit! - Demon X XLR 140 Pit!

Picked up my pot from Lydd, Round 4.
https://scontent-lht6-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/19429853_497118073972556_4740742953154712235_n.jpg?oh=632eff7a3adabccff70b50688dabf88a&oe=59E1987D
Llandow - completely different to what I've been used to.
Very technical, tight and twisty track.
Transitions from Tarmac to Concrete too.
We arrived mid-day on the Friday.
Because of previous experiences on the paddock at night, with generators running 24/7, and other riders bringing dogs along which bark and howl all night. We decided to stay just off site, on a caravan park, 1/4 mile away.

And then set up on the paddock:
https://scontent-lht6-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t31.0-8/19441986_497523623932001_1580377021497213947_o.jpg?oh=487e377b3913dcdd578e168eaf627f7e&oe=59E1F584
Practice day was wet, and windy all day.
It kept trying to dry up, but there wasn't enough of a dry line to run full slicks.
But running the wets was destroying them.
So I settled for a Soft compound slick on the rear, and Racing compound (Uncut wet) on the front.
Managed to get lap times down to around 55 seconds, which was reasonable, but still 3 sec's a lap off Pole, and 5 sec's a lap off the CRF150s.
Packed up Sat night, walked back to the camp site.
Came back to the paddock the next morning, there had been one hell of a rain storm in the night.
Was greeted with this.
https://scontent-lht6-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t31.0-8/19417328_497445360606494_6331803577415040782_o.jpg?oh=ce34e999cbeb072bc99c45abe5498755&oe=5A0FD7EE
And a few random gazebos floating around on the race track which cant have been strapped down.
Warm Up:
Went well, it was raining lots, very wet, so went out on full wets.
Got a good feel for the track, and was happy with my riding.
Qualify:
It had dried out by now, but was cold, so I went out on S rear, R Front.
Couldn't get a lap time down below 55.6 seconds, so wound up 11th on the grid, 2nd in my class though.
Had a very near high-side on qualify, gutted nobody had a GoPro on.
I have no idea how I stayed on.
Race 1:
Got away well from the start line, and managed to stay in 2nd place (11th on the grid), for the entire race.
Then Nath (Who was leading the open class) had bike issues, and had to pull into the pits, which gave me a very hollow victory, but took 1st place in Race 1.
Race 2:
Again, got away very well.
Stayed in 2nd place for a good portion of the race, and managed to reel in one of the bikes running in the CRF150 class (Which was actually a Husky 85 in supermoto trim).
The Husky was lapping about 1 second a lap faster than I was in race 1, but because I'd managed to stick onto the back of him, I picked up my pace, and hung on until we caught up my Race Leader (Nath).
And then it all went a bit wrong.

But I managed to remount pretty quick, and stay in 2nd place in my class.
Annoyingly the Husky passed Nath on the same lap I came off, so I'd have probably been able to follow him through and take another 1st.
But, points wise, I still finished in 1st place overall.
Couple of pics from the morning warm up.
We'd already had 2 riders crash that weekend, and both broke their Femur (Thigh bones). Nasty shit!
So I put the MX boots on and rode SUMO style while the conditions were so bad.

I crashed 3 times over the weekend.
Bent bars, and damaged footpeg bar, so some repairs are needed before Fullbeck which is in 2 weeks time. ____________________ - Honda XL125S - CBR400 NC29 - VFR400 NC30 - CBR400 NC29 - TL1000R - TeeZeR Pit! - Bandit 12 - YZF450 - LuckyMX125 Pit! - Demon X XLR 140 Pit!

Pot from Llandow Rnd-5 - 1st over all.
https://scontent-lht6-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/19905044_505487726468924_8424662653637231810_n.jpg?oh=b732cac3651ad2c343ab2c263f171055&oe=59C72040
What a crazy weekend at Fullbeck Rnd-6
Arrived Friday noon. Set the van and gazebo up, and met a few cool guys who were in the paddock.
Billy Mcconnell was one of the Guest riders there this weekend. Such a cool fucking dude!
Sat - practice day.
We had the biggest grid so far in the BMB.
20 bikes all in. 6 of which were KTM and Husky 85s.
https://scontent-lht6-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/19904870_505352916482405_5503115556609521021_n.jpg?oh=d86171c47c5a6fb1881af7e2daa62e05&oe=5A0BCFA3
I managed 4 out of the 7 practice sessions on Saturday. Got my lap times down to a respectable 49.7s.
Then on session 4, while pushing hard trying to keep up with some of the Ex-BSB riders, I had a fuck off high side on the last right hander.
4 to 5 foot of air before landing on my left hand.
It swelled up like a bunch of bananas.
I called it a night, loaded up on pain killers and put my bike away.
Sunday morning, few of the lads egging me on to race.
Hand was killing me, but was convinced it was just swelling.
Mouth full of pain killers, and I went out for warm up.
Lapping at 50.5s, so I'd lost nearly a second through not being able to brake as hard.
Quali went okay, But I qualified last. Pain was excruciating.
Race 1 - That flag dropped, adrenaline kicked in, and I managed to cling on to the back of Lee Jackson (BuildBase BMW rider), who was riding a very under-powered Mini-pit on 5 year old tyres (but still kicking my arse).
Got some good lines for 7 of the 10 laps, and put in a best lap of 49.6s.
Made a few silly mistakes and lost sight of the pack, but still finished in a solid 3rd place.
Race 2 - Same again, pressed on, and managed to run with the CRFs and 2-strokes until about lap 4, where they started to pull a lead on me.
There were a few riders go down in this race, so waiting on confirmed results. But I think I wound up in 2nd place.

Left the track at 5pm to head home. Got in at 2am. Fucking M11 and A1m were closed.
Monday morning, Cassie took 1 look at my hand, and frog marched me to A&E.
Fucking fucked it didn't I.

Broke the base of my little finger where it joins the hand.
Out for 6 to 8 weeks.
That unfortunately puts Whilton Mill Rnd-7 off the cards.
In the mean time, I will be changing my engine to a stock 140.
1, so I can run in a race which is 1 single class, not mixed classes.
and 2, because the Anima 190 is a bit too much for my tiny bike.
I'm lucky it hasn't high sided me more. This is the first one I've had, and the high cc mini-pits are renowned for it. ____________________ - Honda XL125S - CBR400 NC29 - VFR400 NC30 - CBR400 NC29 - TL1000R - TeeZeR Pit! - Bandit 12 - YZF450 - LuckyMX125 Pit! - Demon X XLR 140 Pit!

YX140 ordered
https://cdn.bcf.44bytes.net/files/capture_193.png
Along with a Mikuni VM26 carb.
https://static.wixstatic.com/media/343da1_65b1b4fd0bd24998b184893055958844~mv2.jpg/v1/fill/w_498,h_400,al_c,q_90/file.jpg
Probably wont be fit to ride for Whilton Mill, but I will certainly be racing at Rowrah Rnd-8.
The race organizers have said if I put the RS125 pit bike on 12" wheels I can run it in the Open class I ride in now with the 190 mini pit.
Granted, it's 11.5cc over the limit. But against 112cc Stroker KTM85's, I'm out powered massively anyway.
It'll just be cool to run the Aprilia with the fast bikes, as it wont race anywhere else. Doesnt meet any regs.
So I will be racing the Mini Pit in the stock 140 or 160 class from now on.
I'll be running about mid-field in this class, as the front runners are all sponsored riders, (Most are ex-superbikes)
But at least I'll have a battle, racing 3-abreast into the corners etc.
Proper good fun. ____________________ - Honda XL125S - CBR400 NC29 - VFR400 NC30 - CBR400 NC29 - TL1000R - TeeZeR Pit! - Bandit 12 - YZF450 - LuckyMX125 Pit! - Demon X XLR 140 Pit!

A lot of guys run a 140 because it unlocks every class (apart from the age restricted ones) as you're already on the smallest engine.
It is £85 to enter a class. Or £110.00 to enter two.
So I'll do 140 class on the bike. Just for the racing factor.
But I will carry on doing the last 3 rounds in the open class (also on the 140) just to keep scoring points. As I'm 2nd on the leader board for the season.
I'd like to defend that 2nd place.
I'll just use the rotax for a few practice sessions in the open class on the Saturday. Stretch it's legs a bit. ____________________ - Honda XL125S - CBR400 NC29 - VFR400 NC30 - CBR400 NC29 - TL1000R - TeeZeR Pit! - Bandit 12 - YZF450 - LuckyMX125 Pit! - Demon X XLR 140 Pit!

The Anima 190 made a proven 18/19bhp, and loads of torque.
The YX140's all make a claimed 14bhp online. But when we rolling road them at the race meetings, very few make anything even remotely close to the 14bhp limit which is in place for the stock class.
Most are making 11.5 / 12bhp tops, that's with the genuine Mikuni carb too.
BUT, it makes for much better racing.
They still do 70mph on the long straights. And it takes Cheque-book racing out of the equation.
The KTM85s are probably 20bhp~
The fact that 4 out of the 6 that enter are ridden by pro BSB riders means they dick on me. [/list] ____________________ - Honda XL125S - CBR400 NC29 - VFR400 NC30 - CBR400 NC29 - TL1000R - TeeZeR Pit! - Bandit 12 - YZF450 - LuckyMX125 Pit! - Demon X XLR 140 Pit!
