So about a week ago I looked at what people suggested me to ride, I've sat on an SV650s which I liked but it was a bit odd for me. I'm 6"3' I liked it but at the moment I have literally no money.

I went down to my local bikers, spoke with them and sat on a guy's FZR-600 which you can have for your A2, he has a re-stricter in his and he told me when he gets bored and there's a week of sun he takes them out for a week and puts them back in (Something which I wouldn't do at the moment anyway) I do have experience with around 70-80hp in bikes from riding around on my dads 650 comet sometimes on a local small road which was repeatedly shut or just empty.

Now I'd love to get an FZR as it's in my price range, up to £800+ to around £1,500. Now I don't mind paying that or less and building the bike back up from the ground up. The bike really suits me and fits me really well, and I do like them a lot.

What I'm sort of asking is, what's the best year to get them restricted for an A2 and what to look out for really. I'd love to get a different bike but I'd also love to secretly get this bike (which my dad used to admire) and then pass it onto him when the time comes, if anyone could be of assistance.

Thanks!

FZR?

Or FZS?

If the FZS, sure, go for it.

If the FZR, there are approximately 100 left in the UK, of which nearly 2/3rd are SORNed. So the answer to "which one?" would be "any running bike within travelling distance that is actually for sale and which you can afford ".

You won't be picking and choosing between a huge selection. You can jump on eBay now and see what's available, but since you're not licensed yet, you'll only be torturing yourself over what you're missing.

The "FZR" as I like the full fairing look! There are a lot of 1994's for sale so I'd assume they would be fitting. But I'd make sure I'd get one that's already MOT'ed and such as the ones that aren't are roughly a couple hundred quid.

Would you say they're a good choice in general or? I like the torture as it makes me work harder and get more hours at work xD

Sorry, no idea. Not my bag. They're old bikes now though, so you'll be lucky to find one that's genuinely needing nothing done.

This is all premature anyway. Until you've got a licence you're just seat-sniffing.

Without sounding like an idiot as I've tried searching. What's the main difference between the two? Other than full fairings and stuff.

If anyone knows!

Just to muddy the water further there is a FZR600 with single or 2 round headlights which made 91BHP so ok for A2. THen there is the FZR600 (R?) with the foxeye headlamps that made 98BHP so is no good for A2.

You don't see many about so you may want to look in to parts availability before getting one. Cheap ones will probably be well shagged so factor in possibility of fork rebuild, new shock and replacing all the minor bits that go to crap with age.

I like buying older bikes but they almost always require at least some jobs done. Normally the result of that for me is the entire bike laid out over the kitchen and spare room... but that's part of the experience for me. If you want to go that route, unless you manage to find a true gem, you'll need to be willing to do the work it needs and you'll need some decent tools, Also expect the bike to be off the road for a bit whilst you do the work.

Not trying to put you off but it depends on what you want from your bike.

See that's what I like! Any other thoughts from people? FZR 600 vs FZS 600?
