Hello all

I hope its appropriate to post in this section; I'm looking at buying a Triumph Sprint ST 1050 from 07, details are:

23.5k miles
Body / Tyres are mint
Datatool system 4
Heated Grips
LED lights
Double Bubble
Tank Pad
Givi Topbox
R&G Crash Bungs
Price: £3,8000


What do people think? This'll be my second bike after the GSXF and I've yet to find anybody to have a bad word to say about it. One potential issue would be the price maybe? However, the dealership will put in the 24,000 mile service & MOT included in that.

I'd be really keen to hear what you all have to say here, please let me know about past experiences, little things about the bike to watch out for and what will most likely need to be replaced because of manufacturing errors.

Also, the bike does not come with the Triumph Panniers, where would I be able to find a set, other than ebay?

The panniers are really expensive and really crap so unless you can find a set at next to nothing I wouldn't bother.

Price is high but used bike prices are seemingly all that way these days. For reference my 2006 plate with 24k was traded in with the dealer at 2k and got put back up for sale at 3750. Wasn't mint though to be fair, but it did have the panniers.

I've got bad words to say about them, which is why I sold. I won't repeat it all but gist from me is it's neither sports nor touring and not appropriate for either use. With that said, I really did like the engine and on wide sweeping roads it does handle well for a big fat whale of a bike.

I wouldn't have it back though. Not a chance.

I bought one 2 years ago for £3k after selling an FZ6 that I found too revvy and buzzy. It was an 05 Caspian blue done 21k miles. It had some good extras inc full panniers, top box, bar risers, mra touring screen, heated grips, chain oiler, etc. I sold it 4 months later having done 3k miles. The wife said she was comfy on the back. It was very good on fuel. In fact I think it's a very nice bike to look at. The engine sounded great.

It was a good bike but not a great bike, not quite sports and not quite a tourer. The panniers leaked when it was wet. It was due a valve service at 24k and that was floor walloping price and made my eyes water more when Triumph gave me a price to do it. Reg/rect seemed more like a serviceable item and sprag clutch costs would make most grown ups cry. Specialists were cheaper but not by a vast amount. Headlights were painfully shit

Mine was 100% reliable, good on fuel and comfy, although at times when I started it from warm it'd seem like it was starting with a flat battery then would just about catch and start. It was the same with a new battery but held the power with a steady charge rate. I don't think any of the range for servicing are wallet friendly at Triumph.

They look good on reviews but it just wasn't for me. Maybe the later ones are better.

Never ridden one myself but it's on my list for test rides. My mate has had 3 (first was a 955) and did extensive touring all over Europe both regularly two up and solo with all of them as well as regular blasts around Scotland. He has very little bad to say about them. He came rom a 955 tiger and went to a new multistrada. I actually think they look good value compared to the rest of the market.

However as I said I haven't ridden one yet.

Nice enough bikes. I've ridden a few but sports tourers are not my thing really. I'd rather have that engine in a Tiger if I wanted to tour or a Speed if I wanted a naked.

I make no bones that I am a Triumph aficionado but there are some minuses. They hold their prices well, good for selling but not for buying. As said, they are a bit of a 'not sure about my purpose in life' bike but the engine is a gem and there are a lot of people who like them

The Sprint is getting long in the tooth now. It's had a few upgrades but I don't expect that engine to be in production for very much longer as they have the Tiger 800 and Explorer to fill the adventure slots. The new street is closer cc wise now. Maybe they will use the 1215 engine in any new Sprint/Speed on the drawing board, who knows.

If you get a good one at a good price Thumbs Up The good thing is if you buy one and then decide it isn't for you you're not likely to lose much in resale.

Oh and if that's the triumph fit alarm (it will be) do make sure you source the loom plug that goes in there when you haven't specified the alarm from new. Why? Because it'll burn itself out and leave you stranded. Source? Happened to me innit.

You can get a lower mileage, newer GSX1250 for less money than that, even at dealer prices. I tried a few Sprints before buying mine and what swung it was the GSX is much more comfortable for bashing out miles and I much prefer the torque of the Suzuki engine.
