A very old style computer game.

If you like uber-retro or fancy a faux trip down memory lane, this might be your cup of tea.

Should run on any reasonably up to date windows computer. Not sure about Macs.

Game is attached in rar file Thumbs Up

Heh, before my time too.

It was just an exercise in some new programming stuff I've been getting to grips with. There's some ASCII art in it to cut some of the dullness too.

Text adventures were some of the best times of my gaming life.

They are truly immersive, they really are. Try Zork, it's unreal.

If it wasn't for big bang I wouldn't even know what Zork was. It was better when it was about nerdy stuff rather than unrealistic relationships Sad

If you was to write it in python then it would work across multiple platforms Smile

Draw a map to keep your progress, it makes life a lot easier.
And look around.

Kids these days have no idea of the joys of playing a game over months, with maybe no progression for days on end...

I remember being at school and a group of us players would meet up before class and discuss how to progress and fire ideas off each other like "I'm going to try and put some water into the plant pot" or "Has anyone tried killing the spiders with the rotting foot?".
Get back the next morning and say "Those were terrible ideas, but I did kill the spiders with the torch"
"Woohoo Pjay, you're the man".

Good times indeed.

Ha, it's not one of those sorts of games. Would've taken way longer to do that.

It's sort of 'pokemon' style. You just fight enemies, give and take damage, use health items and buy weapons with the money you earn from winning battles.

If it, helps, the majority of commands have one-letter shortcuts e.g. just press 'h' for health instead of typing the full word.

Still doesn't exactly have the same pace as mario kart or whatever though Laughing

It's in C# which means it could also work across multiple platforms with relative ease. Wasn't really my aim to do that though. 'Almost every modern computer on the planet' is enough platforms for me at the moment Laughing .

Oops, didn't notice what he'd written included a quote of your mention of Zork. Eye fail.

I had a look at Zork too. I didn't have the patience either (which I know is a bit rich since I just made a text game myself Laughing )

I downloaded it, played it, killed a burger on legs with a fork and earned £5 and then faced a fruit fly. and then stopped playing

I put in rude words too, of course.

Makes me feel old, I wrote my first game in Z80A machine code on a Sinclair ZX81.

Kids today don't know how good they have it. Back in my day you bought a magazine and typed the game in yourself; they printed the code and you had to type it in. Then it didn't work and you had to wait until the next edition for them to print the correct bit of code so the game would work.

I was half decent at BASIC, so I would tend to debug it myself. When I say I, I mean myself and my smarter friend. We would also send back to the magazines the fixes too, so they knew what was wrong with the printup.
