Back in the mid nineties I bought my sister a set of 1881British Census CDs.

The are in Infobase Folio file format (.nfo).

She's started using them again to get back into doing the family tree.

Now that pcs have larger hard drives I'd like to extract the data from them (20+CDs) and make single Access database for her so that she's not constantly swapping CDs in and out.

Unfortunately the Folio Viewer program that comes with thae package has no export facility and I'm struggling to find a copy online in the usual places.

Can anyone help with either a .nfo file converter (note this isn't the .nfo files you get with torrents etc.), a link to the viewer or the file format so I could write a program to extract the data.

Thanks

Mark

I dunno if you have found it already but it looks like you need this...

There is a demo but I imagine it won't do what you need you might be able to find a crack.

This a an old v2 format file. I'm pretty sure that the new version won't handle it.

More research shows that the file is highly compressed so I'm not going to be able to do a simple program to extract any data from it.

Grr. Reader is 16 bit so I can't run it on my pc at the mo until I install 32 bit Windows in a VM.

Worth trying the demo though, nothing to lose!

Can't you copy all of the data off of the CDs into a single folder and modify the Viewer program to point to that directory?

That's the next thing to try.

Need a 32bit Windows VM first before I can do anything on my pc for testing though
