Got this little gem yesterday. I was reported 4 days after getting my first litre bike, that's got to be a record.

Setting the scene, quiet industrial estate, Sunday, no cars, no peds - still don't know who reported me. Shame they didn't have the minerals to just ask me to leave to which I would of apologised and never come back... Confused

I did my Mod 1 practice on an industrial estate (because cheap school). Someone must have reported us with all that swerving and hard braking.

You should use the operation crackdown website to report police drivers who put others at risk, because they're driving 2 tonnes of car and there are kittens about.

I say this because I wonder if any kind of evidence is required to make allegations resulting in this kind of threatening letter...

I'd be wondering what standard of evidence was required before what appears to be an quango got access to OP's details from the DVLA or the PNC.

Feel free to fire in with a Subject Access Request to see what information they hold: ask explicitly for the 5-by-5 scoring on the incident report.

How long will it take?

It usually takes between 5 and 10 minutes to complete a report to Operation Crackdown. If you have already started a report, you can return to it at any time using the link at the bottom of the page.

What information will you need to provide?

About the incident – we will ask you for:
◾The vehicle registration number (licence plate)
◾Make, model and colour of vehicle
◾Details about when and where the incident happened – our online map will help you identify the area
◾Any information that may help us identify the driver

About you - your contact details will be treated in confidence. See our Privacy Policy. Leaving your email address will allow Operation Crackdown to make contact with you should the report need clarifying and you will receive details of other services that Sussex Police provide online.

What happens when you make a report?

Depending on how serious the incident, whether the vehicle has been reported before, and whether the driver falls into a high risk category, we might:
◾forward your report to the Sussex Police Road Policing Unit so local officers can take appropriate action.
◾send a warning letter to the registered keeper of the vehicle.
◾keep your report in the Crackdown database, providing a history of the vehicle and allegations.
◾identify and address regular ‘hotspots’ of anti-social driver behaviour.

So it’s ALWAYS worth making a report, even if no immediate action is apparent. More about the Crackdown process

Yep, and I live in Sussex - it could be believable.

Seems a little open to vendetta from the petty.

Never want to stay in an area where you're making chaos if it's anywhere near where people exist, had a few of us doing wheelies on a near-empty road in the evening, 1 hour later essex police kindly told us to do one.

I was doing a wheelie facing away from them when they pulled up but thankfully they seemed to appreciate we were doing no harm just a few friends having fun and politely asked us to leave, without handing me anything Thumbs Up

Meaningless letter about wheelies clearly needs filing in the wheelie file.

What did you expect them to do? Policing?

If there's no Operation, there's no budget and no targets and nobody is meeting or exceeding their performance criteria. Sad times.

Starting to accept that expecting someone to do their job is asking too much. Even between donuts

They're hoping they can keep a track of stolen bikes when people report them for being ridden in an 'unsocial manner'.
Obviously they won't actually catch any of the thieving scum but they may be able to find the crashed remains of some nicked bikes, which I'm sure would look good on one of their % reports... Rolling Eyes

Probably from the same genius who is 'cracking down' on bikers in Derby at the moment. Heaven forbid they actually crack down on the growing number of shit gibbons stealing our bikes and making people's lives a misery. Wonder how many letters have to be sent out before the area commander gets a prize?

And as for the bastardisation of the English language contained within that letter. Maybe there should be a crack down illiterate people writing letters at Sussex police HQ.

I don't get why the OP is upset about receiving what is effectively 'a quiet word in his ear' from Operation Crack.
Better that than a Section 59 notice.

Eh?
Because it's unsubstantiated.
