Thanks Bubbs for your appreciation and kind words.
Updates: frame and other bits are pending main top coat in gloss black and then lacquer. Got the paint delivered, hopefully sun will come out one day to finish with this phase.
I asked about steering ball bearing upgrade in the previous post but have decided to go with ball bearings. I am going to order from David silver spares. One question on that, the old balls seem to be placed in some kind of plastic cage to retain them in place but I don't see that bit in Haynes manual? I found remains of that cage around some of the balls which I first thought was just dried out grease. Not sure If I should source the cage to retain 19 balls since David silver spares website don't show it in the kit.
All nuts, bolts and other bits were soaked in the apple cider vinegar (images attached to show the out come) for a few days and forgotten about to get rid of the rust. It worked following light brass wire brushing. Took me couple of hours...
The flash rust was quick to come back within minutes.
I was thinking to paint them in Silver but they look nice as they are and feel more mechanical in a dull steel shade. I might get them zinc plated if budget allows.
Or apply clear lacquer paint to cut back and polish but that requires investing in a bench grinder polisher. Still thinking how to go about that. I guess this might be the way forward to keep the original look and protected from future rust? All depends on the budget.
Or just paint them with no no nsense zinc galvanising spray paint 400ml from screw fix for £5.99?
What do you guys suggest on these points?
