Hope this is in the right , so apologies if it isn't.

I've got an '04 600 Bandit and on my way home from work last night a van didn't see me in stationary traffic and came through the back of the bike, throwing me clear but obviously the bike fell over. I don't think the speed was great, probably about 15 mph give or take a few.

The driver admitted responsibility and I reported it to my insurers this morning (Devitts) who passed it onto 4th Dimension to handle as a non-fault accident who've taken the details and will provide a hire bike which I need as I do about 300 miles per week commuting, but no firm timescales when yet.

Later his afternoon I had a phoned call from the drivers insurance company (NIG) confirming they've accepted responsibility and offering to do the same as 4th Dimension so this is my dilemma .....

Should I leave it with 4th Dimension who from what I've read may not be too speedy as they'll want to make more ££'s from it or allow NIG to take it up as I imagine it's in their interest to resolve quickly?

Any thoughts / comments would be appreciated.

Personally I would deal with the 3rd Party's insurance as they will want to sort it all ASAP to reduce costs.

Wink

Deal directly with the insurance company, 4th Dimension are just an unnecessary middleman who're in it for themselves.

Thanks for the quick replies guys.

I was thinking for giving 4th Dimension a call to stand them down and take up the offer from the 3rd parties insurer, I've just been fortunate to not have to get involved in claiming on insurances for a long time.

There's no dilemma.

Deal directly with the people who are interested in sorting everything out as quickly and simply as possible, rather than the completely unrelated outfit of parasites whose only goal is to stretch the process out and gouge huge sums out of everyone involved while adding no value at all.

4D didn't actually stretch it out for me.

Man came took my dead CBR in a van. Did some paperwork. I got a cheque from the opposing side insurance for the bike a few weeks later and also a salvage purchase offer from 4D.

Of course I declined the hire car and bike.

AFAIK 4D don't deal with the claim, they just take your bike and handle the hire bike (so basically make money off you).

Itchy - the problem I have is I need it to commute as the only other option is a bus and a train which takes 2hr each way and costs way more than running a bike, hence I'd like it sorted asap either way (repaired / money) so I can move on Smile

M.C - that's the impression I got from reading around, ie they rack up the hire and storage fees for their own gain which doesn't sit well.

So, compo bike from 3rd party insurer is delivered tomorrow, or you get one from Ambulance-Chasers-R-Us.

Be utterly selfish and unforgiving. Go with 3rd party insurer if and only if they're making it easier for you. If they hum and haw, sure, screw 'em. We'll pay for it, fam.

And guess who has to pay the bill if the insurance claim doesn't pan out exactly how you hope it will? Laughing

Nope.

If liability has been admitted, 3rd party insurers won't give you a compo bike, and 4th Dimension will, I'd take it.

You shouldn't be a penny out of pocket.

Roger - not only have the 3rd party insurers admitted it was their clients fault I have a letter to say they will provide a hire vehicle (they even offered me a hire car within an hour yesterday!) and will arrange for the assessment and repair etc so the same at what 4th-D would do afaik.

I guess it makes sense to make money out of your own clients accident (rather than let someone else do so) Smile
