Bombed out a couple of times, black screen, audio in the background, power loss to monitor and fans going nuts requiring a hard reboot.

I think it gave up though, GPU fan is trying to take off from the moment you press the power and it seems to think it's hot stuff.

Do you concur?

Take it apart and replace the thermal grease between the GPU and the heatsink.

And cull the dust bunnies.

What's "it"? Desktop, laptop?

If it turns out that you've cooked your GPU, the solution can be more heat. I've baked my laptop GPU more times than I've hot dinne- wait, bad analogy.

Clean it up first with isopropyl alcohol, once the heat sink is off use either some compressed air or a pipe cleaner or two to get rid of any dust buildup .

If you strip the card, and everything off the heatsink... give the HS a good clean in some hot water then put it in the sun or on a radiator to dry.

Get a dry cloth on the fan fins, be careful though because you don't want to snap one of them fuckers.

And as above, clean the GPU and replace the TIM.

Cheers peeps but I think it popped. Won't boot and just a black screen with no card output with the fan spinning.

Time to shop I think.

Probably shop around the best value, usually stick with ATI https://www.144hzmonitors.com/best-graphics-card/

whereabouts are you?

I have two HD7950's that i don't use anymore, you could have one of them if you want.

I haven't used them in at least two years but should still work.

Wow thanks, that is generous. I'm in the midlands but I'm ok cheers. Cash is available for a new card, I'm just tight with myself. I have two 4890s, one unused and unopened on a shelf, you're as bad as me Laughing

What about something from the 1070 range plus water cooling? Probably worth updating the monitor at this point as well really. https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Dcomputers&field-keywords=nvidia+1070

First time I've managed to cook a card actually, starting to get annoyed at myself. Embarassed

GPUs tend to be the main component that fails, I wouldn't beat yourself up over it.

Running dual 1070 here - nice cards and cooler / more efficient in terms of power needs.

Need to pull the old one out and check the space before I pick one. PS seems steady and an 850. Managed to get a stress test on that before I lost the GPU fully. I'll just have to wait till the weekend when I can switch back from neets.

I think my current one is only a 700 and that's running two in SLI perfectly.

Might need a bit of support due to weight.

Meh, still not bottlenecked and on the standard clock. Grabbed afterburner so ill have a nose at the graphs during use. The fans on this card do not even spin at idle, very quiet.

I fitted that cooler as a get by and never got round to changing it Laughing. Now I've blasted it with air and hoovered it all out core temps dropped by 10 degrees.

Numbers attached.
