So the local cats like spraying my bike, the cover stinks and when I park the bike round a mates house all his local cats go mental over it (clawing at the tyres etc. Evil or Very Mad). Got a new cover for the bike but I'd quite like this one not to stink of cat pee.

Any solutions? Obviously poison's the default BCF solution but I'd rather not kill them, just stop them from pissing (and shitting) on the bike and/or in the garden. My sister used to spray them with a water pistol, would going out into the garden get the message through they should find a new kitty hangout?

Soak the ground/cover with white vinegar. They're meant to hate the smell.
although mine will always try to sneak behind the tv for a sneaky piss no matter how much I put down

I think that's why they like my garden, as I don't have a vicious attack dog. I'll try the vinegar thing. I'm guessing you can't wash covers without them falling apart?

So is the problem, that when your bike is parked at yours - some cats piss on it? Then when you go your mates, his local cats congregate around your bike because it smells of cats?

Not sure I got the gist properly.. But either way..

My neighbours didn't want our cats going into their garden so I bought them a couple of those motion activate noise emitters that emit a high pitched noise. It worked, although took a couple of weeks to effect, and now they just skirt the top of the fence.

Yep that's it. Interesting I might buy one, I don't want anything that makes an audible sound as that'll probably wake me up.

Edit: another idea, what if I left a cucumber by the bike? Laughing

I had a similar problem trying to keep the Cyprus cats off my convertible roadster. They were keen on scratching/clawing the soft top. Fortunately pissing on it wasn't a problem.

My challenge was to keep them off the car altogether.

In the end I used a combination of covers but what may help you, is that I top the covers off with a sheet of camouflage scrim. It has a netting layer in it and it makes a rustling noise and the cats don't seem to like the noise (or the feel of net under their evil little paws).

It cost about 20€ and scrunches up small, so you could take it with you when you go visiting.

scrub the bike to remove old smells when you use the new cover, but as mentioned vinegar and lemon juice works.

Interesting but I've never actually seen them on the bike, they give it a nonchalant squirt as they walk past Evil or Very Mad

I did ponder whether it was a case of I had a bike with cat smell, and that triggered the sequence of covers transferring the smell to bikes (and vice versa). This is the first time it's been new bike + new cover.

Whats relatively likely is at some point either you or the previous owner pissed off some crazy cat lady by revving and scaring her cats.

So she poured cat pi$$ all over it and its still there in the cracks of the fairing / washers etc.

Sell it and get a new one - its the only solution.

As mentioned by others.
Clean the daylights out of the bike and cover.
Cats don't like citrus (and I gather from here vinegar) so give the area a dose of something that smells strongly of Citrus or Vinegar.

I have heard that Jeyes cleaning fluid also does the job but never tried it myself...

Ask a close friend whether you do, in fact, smell like a tom cat.

HTH Thumbs Up

Think that needs a feminine opinion, how much do you charge for a sniff?

Just spread some white vinegar round the bike whilst saying a prayer to nobcat. Hope it works, Ste was busy with his election campaign so couldn't perform the service Sad

Citronella - Cats hate it, not corrosive. Holland & Barrat or any other foodie/hipster herb store.

What you don't want to do is change your coolant and leave it in a nearby open container... Tut Tut
