Call of duty war zone. It is great for a free game. My PC runs it fine, also playing Forza Horizon 4 and the new Doom (which is so far not different to the 2016 version).

Run a passive cooled system and the old Palit GTX 750ti is showing its age.
Ordered the Palit GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Kalmx.

Been playing some quake mods the past couple of days.

Fired up FEZ this evening and my laptop decided it was gonna install an update right in the middle of playing. Its currently 23% in, just hope it saved my game.

@HT - The modern Tomb Raider series is fantastic, I'm sure you'll move on to the later 2 games in the series if you're enjoying the first one.

Checked and they don't do a passive cooled version.

In an ideal world I'd have a PC with active cooling in another room to where I do sound recording.

I'm not a regular gamer...just fancied some better resolution and fps.

Looks purty too.

MSI frozer cards generally stop the fans under low GPU load... I guess you're not gaming while your recording??

My brother pestered me to get a game called Ark Survival for ages. He got it for 8 quid on Steam, but when I checked it was 45 so sod that.

Then I saw it for 20 quid on Steam, so I went for it. 40GB of game!!! Huge!

First time ever playing an online game. Seems reasonably fun so far. Brother's addicted to it. I normally steer very clear of these sorts of things, specifically because I don't like the idea of addiction to a game. So in my whole life I've never played Warcraft, DOTA, COD... etc etc, all the games that gamers harp on about and spend literal full weeks of their lives playing.

Since we've got a ton of isolation ahead of us, I have relented. I am now an online gamer, and Ark Survival is my game.

The Complex. A choose your own outcome adventure game based around a film portraying a virus outbreak. A bit fitting for the times we are in. Based on the choices you make; it gives you a personality outcome. There are 9 possible endings. I can't be bothered to play through it again. Entertaining film and tough choice to make.

I recognised 1 actor in the film, a jock female. Worthy of a single playthrough.

Under 60°C, regardless of the load. Many card manufacturers do that these days.

Just slapped 16gb of memory in my laptop so I can now use the Kamov KA-50 Black Shark helicopter in my DCS sim, I'm not really interested in all the war stuff just feels cool knowing how to fire up the engines and systems on an attack helicopter.

I just wish I had a PC that could run DCS at full whack. You see these guys on youtube who have DCS and the must spend an absolute fortune in their systems.

Yeah if they are serious about gaming, why not. I spent around 2k, maybe a little more on mine, it's not amazing but it runs most things so smoothly.

Corona isolation has turned me into a gamer. I planned to get a new computer anyway but always put it off because "I don't really need one". Well last night I sunk a grand on something that will most certainly do the job for me.

For the computer keenos, the notable parts are:

CPU: Intel® Core™ i5 Six Core Processor i5-9500F (3.0GHz) 9MB Cache
Motherboard: ASUS® H310M-A R2.0: Micro-ATX, DDR4, LGA1151, USB 3.1, SATA 6GBs
Memory: 16GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 2666MHz (2 x 8GB)
Graphics: 6GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 1660 SUPER - HDMI, DP - GeForce GTX VR Ready!
SSD: 1TB PCS 2.5" SSD, SATA 6 Gb (520MB/R, 470MB/W)

This is just so I can play Ark Survival on max settings Laughing I'll probably try a few more things now too. Far Cry 5 or something.

Small edit for those who pick up on the cost: That price includes monitor, case, keyboard, speakers, PSU... everything. Totally new purchase for me.

Fair enough but if I could splurge that kind of cash I probably wouldn't . I am inordinately tight by nature. However my first PC back in 1994 cost me £700 which in todays money would be £1400.

Foolish post. You realise all the keenos will now tell you how they have a system twice as good that they got two years ago for less money blahhh blahhh blahh. Laughing

I don't mind. I used the PCSpecialist website which lets you pick all the parts yourself, and did a fair bit of research about each part as I went along. I think the only questionable decision I made was the i5-9500F CPU, which by all accounts isn't that much better than its cheaper 9400F predecessor.

Also note that I had to buy a monitor, keyboard, speakers, case, PSU etc too as this was an entirely new machine for me.

I think the only way I could have got it cheaper is if I'd bought all the parts separately on Amazon, but frankly I have no patience or desire to wait for ten separate parts all to arrive at random times. Too much risk of hassle with delivery or other issues... just send me the whole PC in a box please!

After reading this post I picked it up for 9 quid.

Blowed if I can get to grips with it really though. There's no tutorial and the main problem for me is with default screen resolution I can't read stuff like items in your inventory. I'll try and persist with it though.

Yeah the lack of tutorial is really strange.

Is there not an offline version of the game that walks you through any of the basics? I'd have thought there would be (I didn't need one though as my brother showed me the ropes).

Best advice I can give is:

Press E on bushes to forage for berries and foliage.
Press E next to water to drink it.
Press E near stones to pick them up.
Punch trees to get thatch and wood.

From that you should have enough to craft the very basics and survive a night without dying.

Press I to access your inventory.
Press V to access the craft panel for making stuff.

Keep leveling up (happens automatically) until you can make tranquiliser arrows. Then google how to tame animals.

Find a low level pterodactyl (around lvl 20), tame it, build a saddle for it, then the world's your oyster.

I bought this when it came out. But until I upgraded my computer 2 years ago I was unable to play it. So now I have finally completed it..

Cheesy fun!

Psychic man, you psychic. Laughing

Only reason I'll pick at it is the 1660 and the i5.

Whilst the board is largely OK, its not fantastic but will do anything you want.

The 1660 is turd, you won't max ARK. Ideally you should have gone for either a use 1070Ti or 2070 Super. All can be had for £250.

The processor is the F series, you could have grabbed an i5 8600K for that or even a used i7 6700K which would trounce that one.

You have 2 real bottlenecks there for ARK, but I guess what you mean by 'max' settings. I play at 3440x1440 on ARK and have everything up max and I still struggle to a degree with everything at super super duper.

I tend to run games on high, but I also don't tend to play casually its always competitive Laughing

And that is fair enough, I just prefer to build mine from the ground up, but your method saves time but can also add cost, like you say could have bought bits on Amazon etc etc

Not 1660, it's 1660S Tut Tut

https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-1660S-Super-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1660/4056vs4038

Not that I know a great deal about these things. There was probably a better option available even on the PC Building site I was using, and within my budget. It'll do for me though. Problem is I had to chuck a fair whack on the SSD and a ton of RAM as I'm going to use it for work too.

Anyway to compare, I'm currently on a laptop with a Radeon 530. The upgrade I'm soon to experience is surely phenomenal!
https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-1660S-Super-vs-AMD-Radeon--530/4056vsm375394

As for running games on 'max', all I really mean is "way better than currently." My intention is to put Ark up to max settings, then plop the resolution down a touch if I have to. Currently I'm on potato settings with 1260 x 980 resolution, so all upgrades are going to be an excellent change.

Now that I'm getting this complete machine delivered, I'll feel far more comfortable upgrading it part by part as needed.
