Try the Rise of Nations, it works better in multiplayer.

I just completed SWAT 4 and the expansion pack again. Biblically hard game, but immensely enjoyable. The aim of the game is NOT to kill anyone if you can help it and I love that.

What kind of system are you running it on, last time I tried to play it, it wouldn't work. At least Rainbow six isn't too far behind Swat 4.

On my rig I can play Doom, GTAV, Deus Ex Mankind Divided and all those sort of games at minimum of 60fps. Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon plays at about 160fps. I can play multiple 1080p video files simultaneously and I use Ableton to create music. Since I've had the FX CPU's I've never been found wanting for performance.

CPU isn't that important for gaming anyway, so I'm not sure why people salivate over the new Ryzen CPU's.

Me either. I do some work in 3ds Max so if I was starting from scratch I'd probably consider Ryzen, but as an upgrade nah. One good thing is FX prices seem to have come down a fair bit Smile

What cooling do you run and what temps do you get?

The importance of CPU in gaming may vary. Many game devs still prefer strong single core performance over the raw computing power. That is why for example the Pentiums and i3 chips (2c/4t, about 54 W TDP) match and even beat the FX 8350 (8c/8t, 125W TDP) in every single area, except maybe multi-core benchmarks, some productive work and Cities Skylines (that game loves high core count).

Not even talking about the new standards that come with the modern Pentium and i3 CPUs. For instance, way more instructions per cycle, DDR4, PCIe gen 3.0...

Apart from taking care of the engine's core mechanics and other bits, it also gives the GPU instructions. Higher the frame rate more instructions CPU has to spit out at given time, so the GPU can then bother with all the individual pixels. If it can't feed the GPU the instructions fast enough, you get stutter and lowering the gfx settings won't help as bothering with that is the GPU's job. The screen resolution also has no effect on the CPU's performance, 480p is the same load for your CPU as 4K; if it's not the CPU that does the rendering, obviously. But, running games in software mode died in the late 90's.

EDIT: https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Pentium-G4600-vs-AMD-FX-8350/3894vs1489

Finished the Wolfenstein 2 DLC. Basically don't bother. They re-use a lot of levels/elements from the main game, and it's just lazily done. A couple of the levels I had to run through to complete them Rolling Eyes

Free until the end of the month (with GwG) Trials of the Blood Dragon.

https://www.ypayfull.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/8-19.jpg

It's a cross-over between Farcry Blood Dragon and the Trials games Confused A lot of it is shit. They have odd shooty bits in a Trials style level, and the story doesn't add anything to the game, nor does the 80s effects. But it's the most recent trials game available. I wouldn't part with money for it but as it's free I'll probably finish it Embarassed

Fortnite BR a couple of times a week. Battlefield1 most nights, and recently started Assassin's Creed Unity. Is the first AC game I've played for longer than 5 minutes.

Fortnite on PS4 most nights. Absolutely hilarious with a squad of mates on their.

I thought I'd be the type to refuse to pay for all the crappy skins etc as it doesn't change gameplay at all.. but I did crumble and pay for the battle pass, only because you earn enough coins to then pay for the next one, then the next etc..

Laughing

Is there any gaming advantage earned by spending money? I seem to suffer far more one-shot deaths (even when shielded) to players in fancy outfits, rather than to the default characters.

Nope, you are just dying to the RNG bullet game.

I have most skins and still die to stray bullets. Rolling Eyes Sad

Cant seem to stop playing Kingdom Come, think I'm about 100 hours in so far.

Must say Far Cry 5 looks pretty good, but not sure if it will get a bit samey, like all the others seemed to.

I have been having a read around. I didn't realize the weapon bloom was quite so random. Too much Battlefield and COD, I guess.

Kingdom come deliverance.

Really enjoying it (only about 5hrs in), combat is tricky but satisfying. The game is pretty difficult starting out but I'm still a soft, no skills, poorly equipped peasant so I'm expecting that to get easier. Most actions seem to have another level of depth, get caught selling stolen stuff in the same town, combat has loads of tricks to no get dead, food ages etc etc.

Only thing I'm struggling with is the not saving regularly.

I like the realism though, no shitty monsters to break the immersion. I haven't had any bugs/glitches yet either (v1.3).
