Confused Pretty much any dog can be violent, however they're a breed often owned by idiots who deliberately try to make them so. What they really want is a pit'.

Would you have one though?

Not from gumtree.

But you would a rescue centre? I'd only rehome an older staff' if I knew the owner (and knew they weren't an idiot), f**k getting an unknown dog and waiting to see how it deals with other dogs and children.

I think the Lord Percy was right about BCF turning into mumsnet when this subject comes up Laughing

Oh, did one not take a running leap off a sofa at my face?

#BlameTheOwners, I guess.

Only positive breed traits are real thread.

Possibly but from a rescue group would be preferable.

That's true for any breed and any age if you're rehoming from gumtree and to a lesser extent from rescue centres.

My sister had a golden retriever which suddenly decided to take a bite out of my niece's face for no apparent reason.
I've met some rather distrustful looking labs and retrievers over the years yet all staffies I've encountered while dogging have been super friendly.

Guess whose brother has two young children and is planning to get a chocolate lab pup despite being warned that they are bitey as fvck. But only positive breed traits are real.

Yes, I had inadvisedly invaded the Staffie's territory after being invited in by its owner who assured me that it was a friendly fvcker and soft as fvck and wouldn't hurt a fvcking fly.

I should have been warned by the inability to pronounce the letter 'u'.

OP, did you get the Staff? Has it eaten the Chorkie yet?

I have had 2 staffs in my life, both of them soft and loving pooches.

One hated other dogs, the other was fine with other dogs. The second one, that was fine was one that I had raised from 8 weeks and he lived with a Jack Russel/parsons russel Terrior cross thing. We got him from a proper pikey type family from that there gumtree and it turned out he was a 'king staff' (bruv I swear down mate) type of dog.

It was imperative that we socialised him properly and didn't let him feel the need to show aggression in any way. Grew up into a lovely, soft dog that just loved everyone. He would even cower in the corner when the jack Russel would come at me for a play fight (patting the floor around the dog sorta stuff). However, very much nurture over nature thing. you have to let dogs work out their natural pecking order thing and almost let them get on with their scraps between themselves unless it becomes actually nasty.

Nowerdays, I just have the cat due to time thing and being unable to provide a proper home that any dog deserves. The cat would probably not care if we died, in fact may want to eat our eyeballs whilst they were still fresh.

Some 32,507 Labrador puppies were registered with the Kennel Club in 2015, making it the most popular dog in the UK.

Might be a link there Thinking

Cushion, back, face. It's an upwards progression. They've learned to use tools - clever girl.

Sadly I wasn't camerad up. Fortunately I was armoured up (bike viewing, the bike was rough too) and got an elbow in the way.

Eh, for all I know, the growling was a sign that it was going to lick me into submission. It's a comforting thought.

But are you short?

Its never fun being attacked by a dog but its not a breed specific thing, in this case its a territory and the owner should have been aware as you can guarantee it had happened before.

I used to have a lovely Boxer, sweetest thing ever but she didn't like men in dark clothing bending over her so I used to warn them. Thats all it takes. As soon as they sat down or she knew them she was absolutely fine with them.

Considering how quickly they were on top of it, I have no doubt of it.

Given that they were just after assuring me not to worry about the dog because it was a softy, my point is rather that doggists are perhaps not the most objective judges of their pooches' behaviour.

Are positive breed traits media constructs as well?

I have no objection to dogs per se. Some of the nicest people I know are dogs. But I'd never, ever have any sort of bull terrier, and I'm always wary around them.

Perhaps I need socialisation classes.

That's why you never listen to the owner and watch the dogs behaviour. With the recent trend of drunks/druggies walking around with vicious attack dogs, you get a lot of heees wouldny hurtz a fly as the dog's tearing apart a poodle or going for a kid.
