Interesting.

How retarded do these researchers have to be though?

Hmm, near 200kg of out of control metal with rider being spun around it all the while.

Motorbike owner and pain researcher Dr James McCauley said very few motorcycle riders seemed to know that these raised fuel tanks could cause injury.

He now rides a motor scooter to and from work, and has given up crotch rockets for now.

Doesn't sound like he has much to lose.

I thought it was raised petrol caps that ripped off your nads? Most big bikes have raised tanks, it's kinda hard to avoid. Also you can be thrown clear and then land square on your nuts, as I found out Embarassed

And going back to Teflonian times I don't think these were particularly good either:

Hardly news. The consultant I saw after my last crash a few years ago stated it was a common injury to male bikers.

(I should add that my man parts are all well and dandy BTW) Laughing

Meh. Rolling over on a morning glory is more likely to give you a surprise cock injury.

I think any male that's ever ridden a bike has some level of realisation that there's likely to be an interface in the even of an accident.

Raised tanks.

As opposed to what?

Level tanks with a raised filler cap?

A level tank and filler cap followed by a top yoke with an ignition switch in it?

People need to bring solutions, not problems.

I'm guessing you're either thrown clear or if you stay on the bike, hit the tank. By the time you reach the bars your knees are probably going to hit them first (I think I did this and that's possibly how I wrecked my knees).

In my experience, you tend to go up in the air then land back on the tank more than sliding forwards into the tank.

Also, lest we forget. wormy bits thread
