I may have just bought a bike that NEEDS a tracker fitted....

What is the best tracker on the market?

Looked at the tracKING and the biketrac tracker.

TracKING is cheaper and both seem equal otherwise?
https://biketrac.co.uk/#pricing
https://trakking.net/home/buy

Also
https://www.tracker.co.uk/for-your-vehicle/motorcycle-tracking/

TL;DR
Please recommend me a good value, good quality tracker for my bike

Got a biketrac, all seems to work ok, phone response is always quick on false positives and they are always helpful and friendly.

Don't have anything to compare it to but no issues so far. Would be nice if they had an app, but other than that everything has been spot on so far.

I've gone cheap....

Got one of these and wired a USB charger to the battery.

Does the job nicely. Just need to hide it well Smile

What's the plan if it gets stolen? Report to police? Or going in blazing?

These guys seem to have a pretty interesting youtube channel, showing them recovering various vehicles that have been stolen:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVwcNh6_pNo

Seems they went to france to get that range rover back. I had a look at the website and it's expensive, but I guess for a high value vehicle it might be worth it, as they seem to actually do something about it.

They're also the company that kept finding this guy's R6:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAr56x8lsuI

There's probably cheaper DIY options though.

You're really close to me on the map, where did you get your biketrac installed?

Biketrac does not drain any bikes battery, it has enough juice to keep itself going for 30 days and tops itself up as and when it needs to. It was part of RoadAngel but has now expanded and forged ahead as a seperate independent company (with more than three employees). It does not "stay activated" if you accidentally nudge your bike, if it has been activated you get a text(s) and phonecall. It is always on (unless you disable tracking via their website) so cannot be accidentally activated, there is nothing to activate.

I had a text and a call from them yesterday after loading my bike in a van to go get its fork seals done, the van hadnt even left my road before they called me up. I could still see it as I spoke to them.

Tracking from BikeTrac works inside brick buildings, buildings with metal roofs and vans plus they were the company that tracked and recovered a bike stolen from London that ended up in Eastern Europe. The unit does not need to "see the sky" and can be hidden neatly away anywhere on the bike.

The service is very expensive but I am happy to pay £99 for one year/£179 every two years to potentially get my bike recovered and returned in under an hour.

Arcane,
Are you the new Tef? Complete and utter bollocks in that massive wall of text. You clearly know nothing. Just fuck off. My tracker is literally under the fuel tank.

I have BikeTrac on my Ducati. When it was stolen the bike was back with me within 6 hours of being stolen. From my experience; bad elements about the BikeTrac was as soon as they called me to tell me it was being stolen, I couldn't track it myself. Bedfordshire Police had the bike recovered back to me (at extortionate cost). Thieves didn't look after the bike too well either. Just consider that if you fit it to something immaculate. You might prefer to accept the claim for a stolen bike than have the pikeys "care" for your pride and joy.

pretty certain it's not "always on". I don't have it but that much I know. It does take a lot of juice when it is on so is bad for small bikes is what I know- it seems the large current draw has no problems otherwise then based on everyone's experience.

As for the sky bit you're also wrong- unless you thought I meant it literally must be exposed to the sky which is silly Rolling Eyes . Exposed to the sky meant there can be no piece of metal blocking the actual gps unit top surface from above. Plastic or rubber is fine though. If you put in the Biketrac like that then the only hope is it's RF function cos the gps won't work. This limits where you can put the unit on the bike- this is less than Trak King which does not suffer the same issue. Didn't say there was nowhere to put it. I'm not just rambling garbage here

You are rambling garbage, I have BikeTrac and have had since 2011. I know how it works because I have used it. It can be fitted anywhere on the bike and funcations in exactly the way that I have described. I can log on now and see where my bike is hence the statement that it is always on and being monitored. It doesn't magically switch on when your bike gets knocked. How do you think 24/7 monitoring is supposed to work if the device only activates with movement?

And "seeing the sky" was your choice of words, not mine.

Both I think.

Follow the signal until Its located, then wait there and call the popo advising them to get there quick before either me or them are seriously injured.

Id hope they would get there sharpish.

On a separate note, it also stores the history of the locations that the bike has been, so even if the battery goes dead or they find it and remove it.

I will still know where it is (was before they moved it on somewhere else).

wrong.

Are you telling people who do have a Bike Trac fitted what it does and doesn't do based on your experience of not having one?

Are you a ginger? Because you're certainly acting like Tef's long lost son.

I'd go with Bike Trac because it's the only one I've seen where multiple owners have reported successful recoveries via police assistance.

Trak King, well, there's that one promotional video of that one guy that one time.
