pretty certain it's not "always on". I don't have it but that much I know. It does take a lot of juice when it is on so is bad for small bikes is what I know- it seems the large current draw has no problems for bigger machines then based on everyone's experience.

Will BikeTrac drain my battery?

Bike Trac has its own internal battery, so it only draws power from your bike's battery when it needs it. However, BikeTrac also notifies you if your battery voltage drops via text message, so you should never be left with a flat battery.
Question

Also, a good quality battery with a decent rating would need a lot of Wattage to drain, Id expect the amps drawn to be less that 0.5a - 1a (5w - 10w).

tl/dr:
Headlight left on - drain = yes
Usb charging style gps tracker - drain = no.

cos the gps won't work.

My very very very cheap alternative DIY GPS tracker works through the metal of the car roof and also through the 2 floors of my house - roof and all. So I doubt very much what you are stating is accurate.

Oh I'd get biketrac too on my next bike- all I did was list the pros and cons which affected me when deciding which one for my current one. And then get into a technical argument with vice and waffle (who are wrong).
I think biketrac too is better.

But it flattens your battery and doesn't work if you shield it. Laughing

Not that either of mine ever has. Wink

My Biketrac device will manage about two weeks before the bike battery is drained enough for the device to email me telling me it's low. (I don't usually leave the Optimate fitted.)
It's fitted as a necessity by the insurance company.
