CBR600F-H Silicon Rectifier

Hi Everyone, was wondering if anyone can help me with something I've been trying to figure out. I recently got a 87 CBR600F-H. I got it as a non runner and I am missing the Silicon Rectifier, the question is would the engine normally turn over without this attached to the loom, or would i need this to complete the starter circuit.

Engine will start without it, just not charge the battery.
