Dear Aunty,

Looking for some recommendations. We've just had the chimney breast repointed in the living room. what can we use to prevent more dust forming? I've seen the PVA option but we don't want a gloss finish. Can you recommend a matt solution?

The indian stone is on our hearth under the log burner. I wanna seal that too but there seem to be other products specially for indian stone. Want to put something on there to protect it too so looking for a reco there, too.

HG make a good product for this, which I think is matt.... Impregnator or Impregnating protector, or something.
No idea about Indian stone specifically I'm afraid

I used it when we opened the fireplace back to the builders arch.
This was 5 or so years ago and the bricks are still dust free.

Can you just put several coats of paint on it?

I did the PVA thing on my walls when I moved in, 7 or 8 years ago. Painting over paint over old wallpaper, it was the recommended thing back then.

Fast forward to now and the paint in paint is lifting and shedding like a snake skin where the wall can't breathe. PVA does not appear to be the recommended thing now.

Painting is the opposite of what we want to do Smile

Having taken the plaster off, sanded the bricks to bring out the colour again and repointed it looks mega. Just want something that can give a layer to stop bits of dust falling over time.
