|
|
So, my Iphone 6 plus started suffering from a known issue with the touchscreen referred to as "touch disease". It's not the sort of thing I can repair myself and O2 want an extra £20 a month for a 7 plus on top of what I was paying for a 6 plus over a 2 year contract, now finished.
I saw an Apple Repair Program for this exact fault, with a fixed repair cost of £149. Looking at the cost of second hand 6 pluses, this seemed worthwhile, so I phoned up and booked a mail in repair under this program.
https://www.apple.com/uk/support/iphone6plus-multitouch/
During booking the woman on the phone mentioned that my card will be pre-charged £326.44, but not to worry as the charge would only be taken for the fixed cost of this repair program at £149.
So you can guess what happened. Apple send out a new replacment 6 Plus instead of repairing the old one and take £326.44 from my card.
I phoned up to complain and after 45 minutes of being put on hold with 3 brief off hold moments of silence to see if I've given up or not, I get put through to a "supervisor" who promises to sort out my refund.
Today I receive and email telling me I have a refund of £119.39, which is almost £60 short and leaves me paying £207.05 for a job supposed to be fixed at £149.
I'm currently waiting for my "personal problem manager" to call me back to argue the toss over me paying what I was actually quoted, which is also the price still displayed on their website.
Ever get the feeling they just try it on, hoping people lose the will to live and let them pocket the extra cash?
Quoted £149, charged £326, refunded back down to £207... ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

I kind of like the product because of the compatibility of apps available, including my Remote Support software, plus I've got thousands of songs now in Itunes, so I feel a bit tied in. I'm not a fan of Android and don't like the Windows phones.
The big issue for me is that this feels like a real case of a very large company trying it on, which I wouldn't expect from such a large reputable manufacturer.
I had a similar issue trying to get money back from South Eastern Railways a few months ago, where the process was so dragged out and mistakes were made several times. It feels like it's a deliberate ploy to make you give up trying to get your money back. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

Just checked mine and it's working tip top.
Apple are the masters at packaging underpowered goods in a nice package and then making us all think we need them.
The Imac started it, the Ipod went to another level and then the Iphone took the torch and ran and don't get me started on those shitty Dre Beats headphones too... (Sic)
Most people will buy what people tell them to, that's why advertising companies make so much money.
Every single iphone user I know has replaced at least one screen on their Iphone, I'm yet to crack one Samsung screen in 7 years.
Gorilla Glass as standard. Apple should take note, but then those screen sales must really help boost profits.
Every time I see an Apple device, I die a little inside. |
AFAIK apple do use Gorilla glass? I think all my iWank devices going back to a 2nd gen' ipod touch have. I've never had to replace a screen* btw.
The only fault I've ever had was the power button on my iPhone 5, by the time I got around to taking it to the apple store it was out of warranty, but because it was a known issue they fixed it for free. They also replaced the camera and battery as well so it was like getting a new phone
*that wasn't smashed by my sister |
I've replaced my screen on this already, quite an easy job if you can get hold of a good enough quality replacement. Mine came from a Chinese firm recommended by a regular to this sub forum. It was their best quality and to be fair was better quality and stronger than OEM for around £100 delivered in 2 days from China.
This touch disease issue is different though and not economical to repair yourself. It only effects 6 Plus phones apparently.
It's to do with the chassis not being strong enough to resist on Apple's first large screen phone. Apple blame the problem on the phone being dropped, but it appears that twisting of the chassis causes solder to break on two chips on a logic board. These chips are responsible for the multi touch operation of the screen.
They've agreed to up my refund so I pay the advertised price of £149, so that's not too bad in the end as this replacement phone looks brand new to me, rather than refurb. It's mint and even all the ports are spotless inside. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

Why did they say they were going to charge £326.44 for a £149 repair?
I know fuel stations pre charge because they don't know how much fuel you are going to take (and so you can't do a runner ) but I cannot see why Apple need to over charge you.
Oh, and my 4 year old Sony Z2 is still chugging away happily ____________________ Triumph Trophy Launch Edition

Then get on to your bank and report the £326.44 debit as an authorised transaction.
Be patient, be resolute, you never authorised that charge (you didn't, you authorised an entirely different one), the company is refusing to discuss it, and you want it refunded in full immediately.

Better Apple's money in your account with them trying to contact you than the other way around. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

They're now going to refund me back to the £149 quoted cost, but lets see how long it takes. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

You've earned yourself a mister. That's the one thing I don't like about iPhones, go backup some app data... I'll wait. |
Using USB to ITunes? What else has a quicker transfer rate than 480Mbps? I do this all the time for customers, it's quick and easy.
Are you thinking about ICloud synch? ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

Nothing to do with "operator error" then?
I've upgraded over 20 iPhones this way with no issues.
Create new Windows user account, login, connect phone, Transfer purchases, backup.
Setup new phone, restore from iTunes.
