My rig is not impressive anymore, it's 5 years old except the graphics card.

I just like hoarding blurays for Plex which is why I have so much space Thumbs Up

Ended up ordering the other day with a few changes. Corsair Vengeance RAM (3200) instead of Crucial, an MSI B350 Tomahawk motherboard (other one was out of stock everywhere) and went for the 8GB RX 580 cos it wasn't much more money.

I've got my current 128gb ssd to go along side the 275gb one. I've got various hard drives mainly external (640gb, 1tb and my old 500gb ps4 HDD). Also got a Coolermaster Evo cooler on my current PC but not sure if it'll fit this new set up... Stock cooler is meant to be good anyways and probably won't overclock anyways.

Will be fine that, should be able to split out an external HD into an internal if you want to build it in any way.

Not many of us actually need as much storage as these l00ns Smile

Hopefully that card will be cool enough to not need fans at idle, was one of the factors in my choice.

Just don't let Cans see it.

Got part of my order today (downside to ordering from 2 different places), case, cpu, gpu & hdd. The Fractal case is lovely, can customise the shit out of it and very well built. The Spire CPU cooler doesn't seem like anything special, and as it turns out Cooler Master provide free AM4 mounting hardware, just have to pay postage so I'll do that. Probs will get a new fan also as this one is 5 years old now. Most of my case fans are on their way out, one of them squeals like mad some times Embarassed

Just bought a used gaming pc myself,
Found it on shpock and I couldn't have built it myself cheaper

It has a gtx1070, 12gb ram and an i5 4460
Unsure which motherboard it is at the moment, does allow for SLI,

Any upgrades I should be looking to do with the above?
Or leave as is for a while? Only playing dead rising 3 and quantum break at the moment and runs both great,
Mainly playing xbox games as I have a ps4,
Also playing some emulators,

I don't know a huge amount about pcs but trying to learn, I have read that my cpu can bottleneck the gpu but all seems OK for now

Install MSI afterburner and run it in the background. Play your games as you want, detail / resolution and then check the results, monitor your temp load as well.

If you are not maxing your cpu out or cooking anything you are fine. You may max your gpu if you do not restrict your frames but that only really factors if you want super high frames.

Next on my list will have to be a monitor, mine is older than me and not HD res. The choice nowadays is a bit overwhelming.

Leave it as it is, Alan. Maybe clean the dust out of it.

About bottle necking, well, people on the internet say silly things all the time. To check it yourself, do as Sload says. IF when playing a game your CPU is at 100% load all the time (and you are sure there are no other apps on the background (malicious software perhaps)), while your GPU is bellow that, then you have a bottle neck. Worth noting, the differecnce we're talking about is 15% and more. Also worth noting, some games are more CPU depended, other's preffer to use the GPU more.

IF you notice your CPU works harder than the GPU (idealy you want the GPU at 100% load all the time), just pop the gfx settings up.
Last bit, if you've got 60Hz LCD panel/Tv, use the V-sync (idealy Adaptive V-sync). Unless you're doing a bench mark, there is no reason for your gfx card to spit out more than what the refresh rate of your monitor is (60Hz = 60fps). Every frame above the refresh rate of your monitor is a waste of electricity.

Download ''fraps'' to see how many FPS can your machine output during gaming. I aim at 60fps @ 1080p, for instance (adaptive V-sync).

Cheers for the advice both,

I have downloaded msi afterburner and set it up to look at cpu and gpu usage and temp plus fps when in game,
I'll do abit of playing around with settings when I have time and see how it affects everything,

Playing around with reteoarch at the moment and thinking I may be better of sticking to stand alone emulators,
Doesn't seem to be working as seamlessly as I wanted, having to change drivers for certain games and stuff,

To be honest I tend to find the whole setting things up and getting them running well, more fun than when it's all actually done

Slight update, my budget went out the window quickly, came in at around £1300 after I got a new mouse and keyboard... and IPS monitor Embarassed The PC is still sat in a corner waiting on an AM4 bracket from Coolermaster. I've got my Dell Ultrasharp monitor, Corsair K70 (cherry MX brown switches) and Razer mouse hooked up to my old PC and everything is good for now. Don't think I'll be able to go back from IPS, although I haven't tried gaming yet. Currently locked at 1080p on this old PC but it is a 2.7k monitor Very Happy The keyboard is very nice also, mechanical switches are a joy to use.

The only thing I haven't replaced is my Logitech X-540 5.1 speakers, they are almost 9 years old now but still working perfectly so don't see the point as I'll be using a Tritton headset for gaming anyways.

That is my monitor but there are loads of cheaper alternatives, especially if you only need 1080p Thumbs Up

That looks nice Bru, only neg is 60Hz and high response so it wouldn't be optimum for gaming apparently.

Torn myself at the mo.
