My pads had worn out so today I went to replace them, the brakes have always been shit on my XJ and I've had to pull hard to stop but they've always been fairly firm. I couldn't wedge the pads far apart to get the pistons all the way in so I decided I'd let fluid out and give them a bleed.

This was when I noticed

I hoped it was all just a sketchy design but upon the slightest unscrewing my thoughts were confirmed of it being an awful cross thread. Fluid poured out the sides straight away rather than out the top of the bleed nipple.

What can I do now? Try and re-cut the threads or will I just have to buy another calliper?

Perfect timing especially with the lovely weather right now Sad

It could have just bent at some point likely during an attempt to undo it. Is it very difficult to unscrew?

Only way you're going to find out is by getting it off.

Alternatively, wedge the fucker closed so it doesn't leak and add a bleed nipple as part of the banjo bolt. Prices showed under a tenner for the banjo and bleed nipple...

Great Odins Raven! ...By the Beard of Zeus! etc.
How did you not notice that when you did it?

If were talking bodges, weld(JB) it shut? Laughing
More seriously, there should be enough meat for a helicoil surely?
It can't be any worse than the original aluminium thread.

Drill and tap the hole the next size up and either fit an oversize nipple or loctite a bolt in there and fit a banjo bolt with a bleed nipple built in.

Used calipers are not expensive, 15-30 quid, they often come with good pads.

The nipple needs to seat on the taper, and since yours was, the seat is probably damaged, so fixing the thread might not be adequate.

This is bring back horrible memories of my nearly borking my caliper the other day.

Definitely want to be checking out what the tapered end of the nipple and the seat look like before thinking about re-threading.

You were lucky there, Fin.
Will the internal thread be so deformed that it won't allow a new bleed nipple to seal properly, though?
