Out of interest, what sort of average MPG are people getting out of their bikes? (don't forget to say what bike your talking about)

Mine has certainly gone up since sorting my brakes out Smile

Im getting about 60mpg from my 2015 Tracer 900.

Absolutely nowhere near that Laughing

I always knew the KTM would be a bit hefty on fuel but I was quite surprised how so, when compared to Pigeon's Street Triple. Same miles completed, same run time, same conditions, different riders - and I'd confess I'm probably heavier on the throttle to make up the difference in the bends where Pigeon is faster but not to any massive extent I wouldn't have thought - and he was filling up with a tenner where I was sticking in getting on for 14 quid. Haven't done the maths but if I was getting close to 40 I'd be surprised; if I was told it was sub 30 I guess I wouldn't be too shocked.

29.6mpg at the moment.

With an 18 litre tank, I'm not riding past too many petrol stations!

That's my NC700X...

Boring one that has saved me enough in fuel costs Vs the car to allow me to get another bike next month. I can live with boring if it lets me do that.

Also, at least I'm not having to throw money at mine just to get it to do the basics, like move... Laughing

the 'cat is getting 55 to the gallon. Acceleration is too much to resist and my average speed is likely always over the national limit...probably.

recon it would do 65 if i had more self control.

Exactly. People tend to describe bikes as characterful when they a) try to kill you or b) try to bankrupt you. When they do both - that's KTM territory.

Bang on 60MPG from my 2016 Tiger 800 after 6,000 miles or so.

Equates to 200+ miles per tank every time.

Mostly commuting or touring but even so its 20MPG better than the car under the same circumstances, and much faster, so i'm happy.

Stupid question....

If I use MPG, how does one work out cost per mile...

So say my bike is doing 60mpg, how much is that costing me per mile if i am paying around £1.14 Per Litre

I may be missing something really obvious. Confused

Simply x the cost per gallon by the number of litres in a gallon, then divide by your MPG.

Convert the price per litre into gallon

1.14 x 4.54 = 5.1756

Then divide your cost per gallon by your MPG

5.1756 / 60 = 0.08626 per mile

Type of use is significant, just splurging a figure out doesn't say much about the inherent efficiency.

On a mixed commute, slow suburban to stop-start urban, I get ~65mpg from the F650GS (grannied), only about ~70 from the Ninja 250 (battered) and somewhere north of 80 from the Enfield regardless of how it's ridden but depending on how accurate the odometer is (so, probably not very).

However, on a steady speed B-road ride on the Nazi Tractor, I can actually watch the long term average MPG rise from 65 towards 70, so it'll be getting well in excess of 70 under those circumstances.

You should factor in wear and tear. Stuff like tyres. I'd imagine you only have to pop to your local Tesco before you had to buy a new rear one. On, say, an RE you could ride to the moon and back.

KTM 990 adventure
35mpg on my 20 mile daily urban commute. Traffic lights, filtering, pulling away from lights to get away from the cagers.

I'd prob gain a few mpg if I took off the tune I made to soften the snatchy throttle and went to standard sprockets (currently runs 16/42t)

I'm getting about 45mpg from my 2014MY Sport Tracker. Not that I care. Don't know if the race exhaust system would
improve or worsen things. I probably rag it more than I need to because it sounds as cool as fcuk. So I suppose in that regard
it probably does affect mpg in a negative way. But then again I run it on super purely for more bangs and pops so MPG isn't really of
concern. I only ride for fun so any petrol bought for the bike is fun money well spent.

Fazer FZS1000. I've never bothered to work it out. Since I don't have to commute, it's not important to me. If I can afford to put fuel in it, I get to ride it. If I can't, I don't. More important to me is knowing roughly what mileage I get out of a tankful, which is approaching 200 miles if I ride like a nun, between 120 and 150 if I'm having fun. That's from a 21 litre tank.
