Changed Oil level at 2500 miles but super dry wtf?

Again what bike?

Air cooled engines are designed to and supposed to use some oil in reality. Its their cooling medium.

As for a 125, lots of servicing is the key, oil and filter every 1000miles, especially as your thrashing it which is perfectly acceptable with proper warming up and fastidious maintenance.

I put about 6000miles on an old CG 125 that had 10k ish on it already. I changed the oil every 1000miles, checked the level every 250miles, and checked valve clearances every 4000miles.

I also thrashed the shit out of it well and it ran like a sewing machine. My mate didn't service his so frequently, 6months oil change etc, and his broke up a main bearing.

Likewise. My (previously very abused but regularly serviced) CG gets changed every 1k with valves every 3k. Thrashed on nearly every ride and it's been totally trouble free.

oh gutted. the cbr125 uses a strainer, rather than a traditional external filter. changing it requires a coolant drain and right hand side cover removal

wemoto prices

oil strainer £2.59
clutch cover gasket £5.36
oil £5 per litre.
coolant (reuse it, Or) £5 per litre

Others have already mentioned, replace the oil every 1000-1500miles. If it were me, i'd do the strainer every second change, so 3k miles or so max... be thankful its not a sump strainer like my gpz900 has. doing the whole service would take an hour or so...not a big job and after you've done it once you could prolly do it with your eyes closed

The terms 'check' and 'change' are not interchangeable.

Also, I can't tell what you are getting at in your OP where you say the oil is 'super dry'. The oil will be wet. If your dipstick is dry, either the oil level is too low to even be touching the dipstick (likely) or you are measuring the level of something other than oil (unlikely).

More chance of a tyre blowing out I would say.

To the OP, a service is nothing major most of the time.

Oil change - Everytime
Oil Filter change - Everytime if you stick to manufacturers intervals for oil changes though for you it's a mesh clean.
Air filter - Clean if it needs it. Change if beach riding is your forte or mice have nested in the airbox.
Change spark plugs - On yours, probably every other service as it's only one.
Coolant levels - Check and top up.
Brake pads - Check thickness, change if needed
Brake fluid level - Check, top up if needed.
Cables - Check, adjust, maybe lubricate if sticky.
Tyres - Check tread and pressure
Bearings - Wheel, headstock - Check for play
Chain - Cheack and adjust if required
Lubricate anything with a grease nipple.

And that is your basic service. It looks quite a lot but you could do that easily in an hour and save yourself money. It also guarantees it is done properly if you do it. Thumbs Up
