So this weekend I took myself, the Mrs, and the muttling off to Pickering game and country fair in the car. While waiting in the 90 minute queue to get in the bloody thing I found myself wishing I'd gone on my own on the bike and could filter past the queue.

Then I realised that might be very un-British of me. This was not really a traffic jam, this was a bloody great queue. I wouldn't be filtering through traffic, I'd be pushing my way to the front of a queue and making them wait while I paid and entered the site ahead of them.

90 minutes in a jam on an air cooled bike would leave me with a fucked bike so pushing in seems the only logical choice but it just isn't cricket!

What's the correct etiquette in this scenario?

In all honesty, I don't think most car drivers would perceive it as any different to filtering; you and I know that when we filter we aren't (well, usually) causing any extra delay to cars whatsoever, but that ain't how most of them see it.

Counter-view: they're making you wait unnecessarily by blocking the roads with their 2 tonne land yachts. They should be thankful if they don't get their wing mirrors kicked off.

If there turns out to be a bike parking area then you filtering / jumping the queue of people all waiting for car parking spaces won't make the people be queuing for longer.

You reduced congestion on the way there for the greater good.

Zero fucks given; biker's privilege. Might get a bit fisty once you get to the front like.

Along with Rogers comments. I would add that the car drivers wouldn't get annoyed at a push bike going to the front, as again, the bike wont be taking their spaces, and also wont be making them wait much longer at all?

So yeah, add that to the No F**ks Given line of thought and go for it. Thumbs Up

I had the reverse of this leaving a rally earlier in the month all the exhibitors and trades people leaving, and the queue to get out was massive.

Ordinarily I would have filtered out, but it was actually quicker to push my bike out the pedestrian exit.

Me, personally couldn't give a shit if you've sat in a queue for an hour. If i can zip down and be in there within 5 mins then I will. Use a bike next time wasteman.

We ride bikes because we are 'better', and people who are 'better' do not sit with the proles in a queue for 90 minutes.

Straight to the front, trying to look as superior and smug as it's possible to do from behind a full face helmet. Thumbs Up

Just be sure to let the queueing cars know that you're going past in double-file by using the correct hand signal - this will keep everyone calm:

Interesting one - I frequently get this at my local Tesco filling station - if there's a spare pump at the front (i.e. another car is filling up and preventing access to the front one) then I'll filter through and use it - (Pay at pump, I'm generally away before the rear car has got going, so no one loses out)
But otherwise I'll wait in line.

Fuel shortage scenario - I'd wait in line.

Just don't see why you would wait.. I've gone to bike shows, carboots, meetings etc when there have been long queues. For one second I didn't even think oh you know what I'll wait here like a pleb. Might as well use the bike for what it's good for.

Filter regularly to the front. Its not my fault that some car driving pleb has blocked 4 perfectly working pumps by deciding to stop at pump number 2 in the middle of the forecourt...

Bikes can get through, cars cant. Thats their fault. Smile

In a shortage situation Id take the car and fill that up - then fill the bike up from that at home.

I too wonder this when I'm crossing the Severn Bridge, if there is a queue do you just filter to the front?

Not me in that situation. I do however use the advantage of an elevated position to pick the best queue to join. Thumbs Up

Do you have to pay on a bike?

On the M6 tolls yes. I don't use the Severn bridge though.

"Motorcycles are exempt from toll charges. Riders must attend a staffed Toll Booth and wait for the barrier to raise."

Because we like to maximise both our costs and your inconvenience, apparently.

Yes bikes are meant to filter to the front of the queue for the Severn Bridge.

Bikes don't have to pay but they do have to be let through the barriers.

Reminds me of the other day on the M6 toll when I queued patiently for the toll...

Raised my glove to the card machine that has my contactless card hidden in and the barrier didnt move.

Dopey woman walked round and put her hand out so I could give her my card and she would do it in the booth manually. Rolling Eyes

So... Clutch in, out of gear, swap feet, take gloves off, remove card, hand to woman, wait for half an eternity, receive card, replace in glove, put on gloves, back in gear and go.

I love when the contactless machines are broken. Confused Sick Sad Mad
