First post Surprised My YBR125 Custom, 10 plate, was producing an arcing noise on the starter.

Took it off, cleaned out the carbon deposits, put it back together and re-fitted to the bike.

However now it sounds as though the bendix gear is not spinning up/engaging.

The battery does not hold much of a charge, enough to spin the starter motor which is failing to engage with the flywheel.

To add to the woes, the bike has been sat in the sun since sun up, and the 'fuel lock' issue when its been left in the sun too long seems to have reared its head.

So, plan to replace the battery and store it under the trees during the day to cool off - any tips on why the bendix motor might decide not too play if the starter motor has been removed and refitted? Can it just be down to a weak battery on its last legs ? Cheers.

Im not to sure about some of your issues. There are far more knwledgable guys that will help you trouble shoot.

What I do know is the starting in the sun issue is to do with the fuel pump, and this part was re-called by Yamaha, so you can get a new one supplied and fitted free at a dealer Smile Had the same issue on my old ybr, and was sorted no problem.

Good Luck. Thumbs Up

Starter issue sounds like a flat/knackered battery. Prove it by measuring battery volts , and also battery volts when starter button is pressed. Alternatvely, disconnect the battery, and connect a car battery in its place using jump leads.

Thanks for the replies, put a new battery on - sounds like the starter may be kicking the engine over but the fuel pump is not winding up after turning on the ignition.

Did have a glitch a while ago on hot days it wouldn't go (the fuel pump), so fuel tanks coming of to replace a tempermental fuel pump. Apparently Yamaha may have done a recall for this problem - although haven't rang a dealer to confirm. Was thinking about getting the tank touched up anyway.
