Hi all, sorry, me again.

So, we now have a bit of life, and it is attempting to turn over.

We have error code 19 showing... basically there is a problem between the ignition and the ECU, but have very little idea of how to use a multi meter.

We have identified the wires we need to be testing, (black and white striped) but not really any clue how to use the multi for this job.

We are using this...

Any help would be amazing Smile

Thank you very much in advance. Karma

At a basic level, if you're using it to check for a broken wire or a short circuit in a wire, set it to measure resistance in ohms.

An open circuit will measure very high (infinately high), a wire with continuity will measure very low (similar to the reading you get if you touch the probes together).

So if there is a wire you want to test for continuity, disconnect both ends and put one probe on each end. If it reads very high, the wire is broken.

To check for a short circuit, disconnect both ends of the wire and put one probe on a piece of bare metal anywhere on the frame or engine or the battery negative. touch the other probe to each end of the wire in turn. It should read high, if it reads low, there is a short circuit.

There are other, more specific tests of the componants you could do but I'm not familiar with your bike.

Ok thanks so much.

Couple of things?
Arrow What is a high and low reading that I should be expecting?
Arrow On the screen, it is coming up with a 1 in front of it all the time?
Arrow Basically I am trying to find the fault between the ignition and the ecu. So to start with, I should disconnect at the start switch and at the connection point behind the headlamp?

Thanks so much and sorry to be a pain.

If you're just looking for a break to start with, just bell it out.

Bottom right of the dial between 5-6 o'clock there's a picture of a diode.

Touch the prongs together and you get a beep.

Put one prong at the start of the wire, the other at the end. If you get a beep, you're good. If you don't there's a break.

High reading is the one it gets with the two probes held apart. Low reading is the one it gets with the probes touched together.

1 usually means 1 Megaohm, which is a high resistance. A low resistance is usually down near zero depending on the range of your meter.
