Nope, sorry, at least if you're honest.
The continuous insurance requirements seem to have killed off all short term policies.
You could take out a policy and cancel it within 14 days, but when you get quotes you'll almost certainly be asked if you are the owner and keeper of the bike, which is a no if you're borrowing someone else's.
When you say borrow a bike, do you mean from a chum? Best bet is to try and get them to put you on their insurance temporarily, but most insurers - bar Bikesure - are likely to say no to that, and even then you might get stitched up like a kipper on the cost.
What you absolutely should not do is to blag the bike, tick the "yes I am insured" box and hope for the best, knowing that if it's showing on the MID then you're vanishingly unlikely to be stopped during the 40 minutes of mod 2 test.
That entirely depends on how much the bike's owner trusts you, as it'll be their license and financial loss on the line (potentially a very large amount for 3rd party claims if their insurer pays out and then chases them to recover it) if you stack it.
The only really legal way to do it is to buy your own bike, insure it through Bikesure or some other lot who will cover you on your provisionaL entitlement, and find a way to get the bike to / from the test centre (van, trailer, or licensed and insured mate rides it in). ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Nice find.
Whether they'll cover on a provisionaL is another question. They do ask for a reason, so it's vaguely conceivable an actual human may be involved in the process.
I mention this because if you don't have a prang, then it won't matter if the bike is insured, and if you do, you'd better be legit. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Thanks for all the info
I have tried Tempcover before posting on here and quoted £50 a day, which might sound high but reasonable since not really liable to ride the bike
Will probably go with that and update what happends

£50 a day That's a licence to print money.
Saying that though it was £27 to insure someone on my CMax for the day with one of these temporary insurers and to put him as a named driver on my own insurance was £40 something.
A question - How can you have a temporary insurance policy on a car/bike already insured? I thought only one policy was allowed at the time on a vehicle? ____________________ Triumph Trophy Launch Edition |

Liable?
What level of cover are you getting for that? I mean, if you bin your mate's bike, who pays for that?
Are they - by which I mean the actual underwriter - absolutely clear that you'll be riding it on test, under your provisionaL entitlement? Again, if it's not completely above board, you may as well not bother. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
