The shipping part of my ex company, S*e*l Transport and Trading, had absolutely no reason to have offices in the city but they did, in the Strand of all the expensive places they could.

It was all for show. Look at us, look where we work. And then they they penny pinch the fleet to save money. Rolling Eyes

It's all show off bollocks nowadays with the communications available.

Is that the official trade term or just the current tabloid moniker freshly produced from the recent barbeque?

I hate to defend some political animal I probably despise, but it's possible he might have been briefed beforehand by an advisor, and had a brain fart on air, and the specific info he was hoping he'd remembered had just disappeared into the ether, right at the point when he needed it. He maybe, probably, might be frantically fluffing a response hoping he could remember specifically what the fuck he was supposed to say, hence the fuzzy answer.

Yep, many companies are like that (eg, Rolls Royce),

All the best

The ALMO, and indirectly, the council, who are responsible for signing the work off.

And big nose, the mayor of London is angry and passing the buck. What a surprise.

How is it his fault? He's as much to blame as you are, more than likely.

Cladding these tower blocks has little to do with insulation and everything to do with making them look pretty.

I drove past it on Saturday, en route to the Guns N' Roses gig at the London Stadium. It's really quite sobering to look at in the flesh.

Question though; there are a further three identical looking towers in the vicinity, does anyone know if they've been cladded or not?

They all look the same which, to me, means that either the burned up one was the only one done or they were all done. Either way, there was no one hastily removing anything from the others.

Allegedly this was the reason given on the planning application, and I have to suspect aesthetics being the primary reason.

Why is it that rioting only seems to happen in the summer months?

I feel a prediction is necessary.

The two in this pic' look unclad, there's a third I believe which hasn't been done either.

As Mayor of London? Surely if May has to fall on the sword, he must have some culpability too?

I do hope his claim to be the greenest London Mayor ever, had nothnig to do with insulating these old inefficient tower blocks.

Now then Trigger, play show me tell me.

Show me where I've said May should fall on the sword over this?

May's idea of falling on her sword would be to impale three better politicians before she hit the floor and rolled.

This is not intended as a wind up question, I'm just really curious.
WHY do the stupidly rich CHOOSE to live in central London? I know that a lot of the recent development is used as hedges for foreign investors (why?), but there are a large number with actual residences in central London. You can't drive, park, walk, breath fresh air. You live cheek to jowl in area more crowded than the old slums in Salford. Rates, sky high, not that it probably matters to 'them'. Why? Just... WHY?

Because other places are cookie cutter town centres filled with chain stores and mediocre services.

If your preferred pleasures in life involve civilisation, you want to live in a dense area. If you prefer the outdoors, city life won't appeal.

I'm not stupidly rich, but paid well enough to enjoy most of London, and for me it's about 50% fine dining and excellent wine, 20% well-compensated work, 10% niche consumption / shops you can't find anywhere else, and 10% other entertainment, whether it's festivals, theatre, exhibitions etc., and 10% energy - just the energy of the streets, most people here are from somewhere else, ambitious to achieve things.
