Would selling off all the housing stock not flood the market?
Roger, isn't LA housing stock is a much more cost efficient way of housing the winners of the "socialist housing lottery" than putting them all into private rentals? If anything, local authorities need more housing stock as the supply is already diminished by the right to buy.
What you're really wanting is for the eligibility requirements to be tightened up so that those who need help aren't inflating rental prices in the private sector.
All of the above would help you destroy / correct private house prices which in turn means less people need LA housing.
I probably shouldn't be posting in this thread as you two are having such fun together and I wouldn't want to get in the way. |

You have no made up facts to support that.

It might be cost effective if you think that the excess population deserve a free house. There's an however coming, but I won't spoil it.
Personally, my goal is to have them die in the gutter. But it's a secret, so don't blab.
Ste wrote: | If anything, local authorities need more housing stock as the supply is already diminished by the right to buy. |
If you think that the excess population deserve a free house.
If you're against the excess population dying in the gutter, and in favour of them getting a free house, consider this:
What if a council built two houses, gave one to M.C so that he could Live At Home, then sold the other on the open market for a tidy profit, voluntarily paid without any coercion being necessary.
Then they could build two more houses, give one to sickpup, and sell the other on the market.
Rinse, repeat. If you don't believe that we have an excess population, despite 34% of everything the government steals from us being spunked on it, then the issue is a lack of housing.
Wouldn't it be better for councils to be constantly building more housing using money voluntarily paid by the market, rather than rinsing down rates payers, throwing up a few Grenfells, then flogging them off to the inhabitants at giveaway prices?

Now you're making up facts by saying I'm making up facts.
Whether or not the excess population deserve free houses is besides the point when comparing the cost of those free houses being owned by the LA or owned by private landlords.
Building two houses, housing M.C in one and then selling the other wouldn't be necessary if housing stock hadn't been depleted by the right to buy. Just building more and more houses, selling half and using half to house the surplus population isn't sustainable, is it?
If / when house prices are corrected then less of that surplus population will need LA housing.
Ah fuck it, just build loads of houses and give everyone a free house. That would correct house prices. Add in a universal basic income and a minimum wage of £10 per hour then house prices won't matter because socialism verging on communism.

You're making up the fact that I said you were making up facts when the fact is that I said you hadn't any facts made up.

The excess population is the point.
If your existence is reliant on someone else, you're either an infant, or a worthless adult.
The problem is that socialist housing exists at all, not that there's an insufficient amount of it.
Ste wrote: | Building two houses, housing M.C in one and then selling the other wouldn't be necessary if housing stock hadn't been depleted by the right to buy. |
Do M.Cs burn down their houses for the insurance after they're renting from the bank rather than the council? They might for all I know.
If they don't, how is "housing stock" being depleted?
The problem isn't depletion of housing, it's an unsustainable increase in M.Cs.
Ste wrote: | Just building more and more houses, selling half and using half to house the surplus population isn't sustainable, is it? |
No, but it requires less coercion than building them all on the rate-payers' dime. We could consider that as a less bad approach to keeping the worthless out of the gutter.
I've proposed my real solution to the issue a few times. Eugenics, and voluntary euthanasia. Building more and more Grenfells is not a winning strategy in the long term. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Just more made up facts.
It's nice to see that the Met have learned to do basic arithmetic, even if very belatedly. Taxpayers aren't getting that money back, are they? ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Bare jail time, Fo realz brah. 3 whole years.
Out in 3 months on licence and into temporary accommodation? Don't see any mention of being deported? I'm sure they'll be religiously attending their parole officer appointments when released and absolutely won't just disappear into the system they'd quite easily managed to nestle into the warm, giving bosom of for 16 years. |

The Raddisson charges £200 a night for such long term occupancy? The operators want throwing in jail for that too, as well as the clunge from the council who agreed to it. ____________________ Mpd72: I can categorically say i’m Brighter than that, no matter how I come across on here.

To be fair she's under investigation fraudulent behaviour in similar roles prior to being the grenfell moneytree
keeper. Including one in the NHS where she's suspected of skimming 35k and another dalliance involving the V&A
museum. Will look for a way to rob anyone she works for. Just happened to be Grenfell this time round.
