Where she'll cost the tax payer around the same again from what she's already stolen from them.

I'd rather have seen her having to work for a living and pay back a sensible amount for the rest of her life, until the £30K + debt has been repaid to the tax payer.

Whereas you'd prefer a prison term for someone black, is that what you're saying?

Bit of a long one but an interesting look into the history of cladding on high rise blocks: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0bqjp75/the-fires-that-foretold-grenfell

In summary they've had multiple fires since the early 90s in blocks retrofitted with cladding.

I must have missed all the blocks of flats with wood stuck to the outside. Watch it, it's a lot better than all the other programmes I've seen on Grenfell etc..

I remember when high rise flats all had coal fires, the ones in Battersea did anyway.

Yeah timber-frame construction, I'm not seeing it being stuck to the outside of blocks like Grenfell etc?

How old were they? A relative lived in a 50s block and I don't think they ever did, I thought the whole point was that they were meant to be modern Smile

I think I see chimney stacks:

I'm not sure when it becomes 'high rise' but that's a 60s development AFAIK. I thought you meant blocks like these which I believe are earlier (30s?):

11 or 31 stories, it's still too far to jump.

I fear a(nother) stupid argument here but they look like new builds. AFAIK new high rise builds in the UK have to have a sprinkler system. The issue is compromising older blocks with external cladding, and retrofitting sprinkler systems. I don't agree with the latter point because I know most LAs will look at the cost and probably choose to demolish the block (which would probably make you happy Wink).

This is a scapegoat blame transfer nothing more, nothing less. There were lots of mistakes which added up to cause that disaster. No single element was to blame.

No it really isn't, it's the usual scenario of repeated missed opportunities and not heeding the warning signs. This is one of the cases cited in the programme:

https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/624/cpsprodpb/82B2/production/_96685433_hi040126283.jpg

The fire spread because of those stupid yellow panels which I believe were all removed post fire. Had they not been there the fire would have been contained in the one unit.

mpd72 CPT wrote:
The fire service actually putting the fire out before leaving would have been a good start. As were the residents association who refused the fire system install because they didn't want the disruption.

The last I saw from the inquiry the fire brigade were saying they put out the original fire but it had already spread externally (maybe they've 'adapted' their story). The stay put policy has twice cost lives, with the Lakanal house fire a woman was on the phone for 40 mins with the fire brigade before dying Neutral

I'm not sure why you continually want to blame the residents. The fact that across the country they're scrambling to turn off gas supplies, renovate blocks with fire doors that actually work, shows there has been systematic mismanagement which extends beyond social housing (schools, hospitals etc.).

I am confused, MDF me old china. What do you mean by the comment:

'its all whitey's fault'?

By this do you mean somebody is blaming white people exclusively, or that white people are genuinely exclusively to blame?

Or, is it those pesky white goods again - fridges in this instance.

By stating 'its all whitey's fault' as if somebody is blaming white people infers that white people are being blamed unfairly and therefore acting as scapegoats for the real guilty group, which are non-whites.

But are you inferring that it is somehow the fault of the black man, or the white man?

The white man is always to blame.

If you're white then you were born with white guilt.

I'm sure the pressure groups won't rest until all the blame has been pinned solely on a white middle or upper class, able bodied, straight man.

Even if they are the ones who picked the cladding that was unsuitable, or were the firemen who didn't check out the window, or were the ones who told them to stay inside?

Righto.
