So as some of you are aware I bought a Chinese pos late last year.
I have sorted out most of the gremlins , however I really need to do something with this seat.
It's like sittting on a plank! The first 20 minutes is okay, but after that my bum starts to hurt and spoil the ride.

So the seat has a plastic base and the covering has been stapled on.

My questions to the mighty BCF are : do I get it professionally reupholstered ?
If I remove the staples, will the base cope with fresh/new staples going in after new/more foam has been added?
What alternative is there, rather than mucking about with the seat in the first place?

Thank you BCF Thumbs Up

Can you not remove some foam and replace it with a gel pad or similar, keeping the same profile, then refit the OE cover?

I like the feel of sheep on my backside, but may give anal beads a try this year too.

Have you really not come across / dealt with polyethalene bases and stapled cover's before? They seem to have been the norm on most stuff since the early 80's, and usually tabbed tin bases, usually with rotten tabs that vex folk...

That's off one of the more recent 125-S-D's, and showing how the solution to the staple issue, vis they so oft don't want t go in, and you end up with rucked cover, is small, short self tappers and large penny washers. Penny washers are the key, and stop the vinyl chasing the screw head.

Moving on; there seem to be a few more pro-saddle services about these days for custom & classic, b-u-t... seem to be ££££££££... is a Chinky POS worth treating to one?

Going old-skool and digging in there with a bread-knife, bits of camping mat, and cushion foam off the market, and a PVC miniskirt with a fag hole in it, would probably be the way to play.....

B-U-T... what do you think is making the OE seat uncomfy? Foam density? Width? Shape? Or, the 'slope' actually on the bike? Could be a lot of 'crafting' to not actually make matters better.

Thanks for the replies.
Interesting Mr Borg Thumbs Up

Mr Teff : of course I have come across plastic seat bases before, I have never had to reprofile one before.
I like the idea of short self tappers and washers Thumbs Up .
Would I spend a hundred pounds on having a seat sorted?, yes, any more than that and I would need to have a think about it first.

Go at it with a bread knife Shocked , why would I fuck up a perfectly good seat with a bread knife, even if it is uncomfortable.

The addition of a sheepskin cover seems a really good idea at the moment.

As for what is the seat filled with?, what I can only describe as VERY VERY dense foam, that makes me all botty hurt Shocked Laughing

Your base will easily cope with new staples. I've just done mine as some feral cunt put a crowbar through it.
