As far as i can tell the lining on my helmet doest come off... Ive tried, taken a look gave it a few tugs and nothing... So how do you keep your helmets clean?

I don't have a smelly head.... Ewwww Sick

Bit of baby shampoo, take off the visor and take your lid in the bath/do this in a clean sink. Dunk it, massage in the shampoo then give it a thorough rinse out afterwards and leave it somewhere to dry, preferably not in direct sunlight.

Wash the lining. Even my cheapy £50 lid has a removable lining. It's not really optional these days.

You can try Ferbeze or something, but that's not going to work for a year or three.

Warm, not hot mildly soapy water.
Pour into the helmet and swill around.
Secondly pour some warm water in helmet to rinse and leave to dry.

Always worked for me Thumbs Up

Or you buy a new bash-hat Thumbs Up

I'd check the little owners booklet that came with the helmet to see if the liner is in fact removable. Even my first £60 cheapy had removable lining.

But yeah, I take it out and stick it in the wash. You can get an antibacterial foam that's quite good if you really can't separate the lining.

Purely out of curiosity, what Helmet have you got (so I don't make the mistake of buying one)?

I've a mate that always wears a bandana/helmet liner thing, which he says doesn't stop the sweat but does keep the lining cleaner.
In fact he usually carries a couple of spares in his pocket as he doesn't like putting the still sweaty wet one back on after stopping for a cuppa.

There are some specialist 'helmet liner' type fabrez stuff around but I find it just as important to leave my lid in an airy place (out of direct sunlight, which is bad for the plastic etc).

If it gets stinky and Fabrez doesn't work then you could try shoe freshener.... Laughing

Lol, i actually asked the question before my helmet got nasty...

And in case anyone missed it. There was sone tongue in cheek humour going there...

Ill double check but the fixings for the helmet seem to be folded into the moulding of the helmet thats why i think its not removable.

The gentle wash approach seems like a good idea...

Thanks Very Happy

I keep a couple of sachets of silica gel in each of my helmet cases. I bought a self assembly bed and there must
have been 20 large pouches of the stuff within the 3 carton kit so I have a good stock of them. I also only wear my lid on
freshly washed hair. I only ride for pleasure and always have a quick cool shower before I kit up to sharpen the senses a
little and cos it doesn't take long for me to get hot again in my leathers.

As said, remove and wash the liners every now and then.

I also spray some Cherry Blossom Shoe Deodourant in once a week or so. Definitely helps.

+ 1 for soapy pressure washing at your local BP station. Thumbs Up

You can just wash it out with hair shampoo rinse and let it dry.
There is nothing inside a helmet that is sensitive to water.

Unless you have a sound system fitted. Mad

Get a helmet with a removable liner & stick it in the washing machine if it permits it. If not just take the liner out and hand wash it like you would hand wash clothes.
