That. Never, ever surrender a license card. Just tick the "lost" box.
However, the actual plastic bit is largely irrelevant now, it's just ID. The point of truth is the online portal.
https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence
You can screenshot that all you like, but if DVLA decide to remove categories, there's not much that you can do. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I seem to recall there being a checkbox for lost when you changed address. Not?
Anyway, we're living in the far flung future now, it seems like you can do it online free and gratis:
https://www.gov.uk/change-address-driving-licence
Go for it, see if it insists on you returning your "licence" for no good reason at all. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Applying on-line requires registering with the Government Gateway,
Your details
Your addresses
Your driver record
Security details
National Insurance number
UK passport number
Password reminders
Seems like a bit of a faff, and possibly untrustworthy. Does anyone have any experience with the Government Gateway (perhaps for other services like tax returns)? I think I'll post my application. |

I use it for tax stuff.

Your driving license is an identity card.
But yes, it is a total faff to sign up. That's why I said don't lose your details if you do. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Legally, it most certainly is not. |
You know what else isn't "legally" an identity card?
The dead wasp on my windowsill.
A bus ticket.
Pieces of string spelling out your name.
A library card.
The Official UK ID card.
Or anything else, after January 21st 2011.
However, the last one, like a driving licence, and conceivably even a library card, are identity cards, in the sense that they are cards which can be shown to provide evidence of your identity.
Now, perhaps you'd like to fite about something that I did say, rather than something that I didn't. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

No thank you, I don't need to win an internet argument about semantics. Legally correct is the best kind of correct |
