I have just recently bought a 1999 zx6r I believe its a G model Still have to read up on that to make sure. Anyway, I do not know what this part is called or what it is used for. I looked on the wiring diagram and don't see it or I am over looking it. If anyone knows what it is please let me know. when I turn the key to the on position this thing gets really hot but it isn't connected to anything when I bought it. At the moment the bike currently does not run.

Thank you for your time.

From the pic the thing that is getting hot is under some heat shrink sleeving, I'd cut that off and see what is underneath, may give a clue to what it was for.

what are we, psychic?
C'mon throw us a frickin bone here, cut the shrink tube open and show us what's inside and what it's connected to.

wild guesses
A previous owners 'improvement' like a resistor to allow led flashers to be used or Linear voltage regulator for phone/sat navs
Whatever it is, it shouldn't get hot at ignition on, so there's a fault
or its being used very inefficiently.

Disconnect it and see what doesn't work

G model is an excellent choice sir! That'll be the flux capacitor. But wait, the additional face on the swing arm (instead of a simple rectangle) suggests it's a 2000, J model. (Fairing with a black, sticky-out tongue.) How can the thing get hot if it's not connected to anything?

Thems ceramic resistors. More than likely for the afore mentioned duty of matching the resistance of LED indicators to a filament flasher relay. They should not get hot until you use the indies. Can't think of any other use for them. If they are getting hot, they are connected to a load that is near earth potential.

They look like resistors. Does the bike have LED indicators?

Edit: Doh! Pipped to the post by jjdugen.

No No leds at all probably best if I disconnect it since it isn't being used.

Those things are like 20 Watts each?
I think it's fair to say they don't belong on the bike.

You can see the yellow and red/pink wires span the resistors
and feed back through to black? wires with tails floating free.
Deffo looks like a PO hack.

I'd cut/isolate them out at the resistor and see what effect it has
then make good section by section.
You can trim excess cable off as and when.
