Hello and thank you in advance for any help given

I have a 1977 Suzuki A100 m, i bought it in bits and have nearly sorted out the new wiring loom etc etc.
There is one thing puzzling me: on the cylinder where the exhaust port comes out it is smooth as in there are NO threads on it .

The exhaust was attached by the normal downpipe and castle nut, but where the nut is meant to screw onto the exhaust port it has a brass sleeve that slides on over the exhaust port and then the crown/castle nut screws on to that to keep the downpipes on.

Problem is :
i cannot see the part on the microfiche so was this a bodge job?

Question:

has anyone got a new barrel/cylinder???

i have now been told the threads were prob stuffed to a spigot was made that goes over port to give a thread then the castle nut attaches the the Spigot

Does this sound right?

thanks

Looks like someone nadgered the original thread and had teh brass sleeve made - neat job if so.

If you cannot easily find a replacement cylinder then you may be able to refit the sleeve. To increase the chance of an interference fit maybe centre punch some pock mark on your barrels exhaust output to make some raised craters.. Maybe also try some loctite bearing fit.

PS you can still get a100 parts from Thailand where they were built until quite recently..

This thread has made me want to build. "Super" A100 again.

Pipe, porting and programmable ignition, just for the lulz.

Now the sleeve is off it won't go back on the port, plus the
new nut i bought is a different thread.
so i think i need to get a new sleeve made up as the cheapest option?

The sleeve will likely go back on if you freeze the cylinder and heat up the sleeve. I also had to get a new castle nut for mine after I cut off the old one but I just checked and it doesn't have the chamfered edge like yours - sure the nut is correct?

If you're getting something made, be tempting to go with a slip-joint and springs. Because spring mounted exhausts are cool.

On the Yammy 100 forum, I've read about someone designing custom pipes and other stuff like carbon disc valves and fitting fancy ignitions to a YB100. Thumbs Up

In fairness, starting with something as basic and shonky as a YB100 leaves you with a lot of scope for significant gains.
