But yes, you can.

Stock Ching-Chong 35kW glow-worm.

50W/50W 7500K bulb:

Keep an eye on the housing to check that it's not melting.

I'm asking about using an LED BA20D and not increasing the the wattage of normal bulbs thanks.

You'll want to increase wattage on ba20 to get brighter. LED will always be brighter than basic ba20, however you'd be better off with more wattage than going LED.

Thanks, however, my bike has a plastic headlamp with a lot of connectors for the handlebar electrics in it and will not presumably react well to increased heat? If I put a higher wattage that will be a problem in terms of heat, hence my request re LED with a BA20D fitting. Why do you say that increased wattage is better than LED as a matter of interest? Halford's say that it is illegal to use LED's except in side lights and that you can use HID's, but, those have an adaptor kit which there is not room for within the headlamp space. I thought that LED's had a more focussed light as opposed to normal headlamp bulbs which have a spread light? Certainly a 35/35 watt normal headlight bulb is almost akin to riding blind in terms of seeing pot holes or anything else etc., although, other people can see you.

Oh, sorry, I didn't really read your question through the Off Topic red mist. Embarassed

From threads passim (in the Workshop section...) the jury seems to still be out on LEDs. There are some suggestions in that thread, but it might be a case of sucking it and seeing.

It's lumens that matter, but be aware that cheaper LEDs are likely to make fantasy claims about their brightness.
