On the face of this, I'd say as a one off he's being unreasonable. Reading his comments however would suggest this isnt the first time this has happened.

so much of this, we're only hearing one side of the story.

Not a chance in hell we'd ever be a couple. I'm already spoken for anyway!

Tim, your concern about "manipulation" in your thread title?
Keep an eye on that.

Next time you start to feel manipulated (regardless of what its about), you should probably stand your ground.

When I read those texts from him, I consider how that would appear if it were a male/female relationship:

If you read his texts as if you were a woman, and he was the fella sending them, that sort of behaviour would be considered by most people as very manipulative and a definite precursor to some serious psychological domestic abuse.

You ought to consider just how much his behaviour is affecting/will affect your responses to him, and your actions in the future.

Oh gosh, hard work. I know one or two people like that. She sounds insecure. A reasonable person would understand and realise we all make mistakes. The fact that she can't just sounds like some jealousy going on there.

One of my recent experiances: This person believes that if a pal does another pal wrong a real friend of victim would then ignore said bad person. If you don't you are not a loyal friend (ie me) Oh Christ. No. Manipulative utter rubbish. Esp when the person saying this is the person that actually had the problem with said nasty person. Projectory, gas-lighting manipulation.

I have given far too much time and it never gets me anywhere, so, well, without wanting to assume too much, it's worth baring in mind.

EDIT: Soz Jess is a boy.

Is "paddle round the pier" a euphemism? I just ask as its a date in Brighton.

On a more helpful note. Maybe the relationship between you and your friend is more important to him than you realise and he's in some kind of crisis your not aware of that's triggered more anxiety than a simple mistake on your part is responsible for. I suspect there's more going on in his life than you're aware of. Make a neutral explanation of your mistake then do a little subtle probing to see if something else is going on.

Bit far! 5 minutes of spooning would have sufficed. Wink
