For those that haven't seen my other thread asking about buying a bike, I recently got a KTM exc400. Took her out today around Rhayader which isn't too far from where I live and had a fantastic day. Have only ever ridden on one greenlane before and my confidence has come on tenfold after todays ride. My ability is still very limited but I tackled some rocky steps and mud which I thought were well beyond me. I also did a bit of fording which was easy after the loose rock and getting bogged down! A fantastic day and alot learnt. Couldn't have asked for better weather either. Pics...

I'm debating getting rid of my DRZ since the green lanes around here are pretty shit. Wish I lived somewhere like Wales or the peak district. Sad

I've just moved from the Peak District to Wales, Wales is better!
The Peak district is a National park and the Peak park hate motorised transport, they especially hate motorised off road transport, they've removed motorised access to more than 90% of green lanes.
Unless you wear a cagoule or ride a push-iron the Peak Park utterly despise you, they're not particularly nice to the people who, actually, live there!
The Quango who run the national park are corrupt, they run it for their own personal gain, they're untouchable, they see themselves above the law.
Just don't go there, horrible place to live!

The one thing I hate is deep ruts full of muddy water, don't mind if you can see the bottom in a normal ford crossing like the other pic.
Trouble is once you commit to going through there's no turning back.

Your picture of the dam wall reminds me of the time I was there.
The gate was up to second bar with water and the way up to it was running water. Going down was slippy and on the way back the farmer had his boy open the gates for us.
