 Posted: 04:08 - 31 Aug 2004 Post subject: A few questions (Rs125 tweaking) |
 |
|
Well, good news.. ive finallly stopped falling off my bike, and im ready to start doing it up all over again. I want to know a few things first though if you would all be so kind as to help me it would be much obliged
firstly, I want to do a single seat conversion but rummaging around all I can find is this *points to attachment*
which is for a Rs250, it looks the same as mine, but i was wondering if it will fit, if not can anyone tell me how to go about doing it for my RS125?
Second question, which exhaust do i go for? I have tweaked and fiddled with mine, hacking it to pieces trying to make it sound a bit better and in doing so made it really noisey but gave it a bit more power, but it does sound awful in the low end. I know that 125s are never going to sound lovely, but I want it to sound better than it does... I have made it quieter again now, but with a big loss of power, it now tops out at 90, whereas before i was getting 106mph out of it.
I quite like the look of the split exhausts, where there are 2 end cans, but will this affect power? am i better off going for a Micron with a single end can?
Lastly, new fairings.... they ARE going to cost a fortune, I know this much already.. but looking around i prefer the look of the older fairings with the big square hole cut out from the 99rs, will these fit my bike?
I think thats about it, thanks in advance guys and gals ____________________ <<-- Most people are like slinkys, useless.. but you cant help smiling when you see one fall down the stairs -->> |

Quick answers.
That seat unit won't fit.
Best off to either go with a JL single/twin as you mentioned or arrow exhaust.
Not sure about the old shape fairings.

A forum user on the ApriliaForum.com called Stu_Rs does single seat conversions for the 98+ Rs125 - and I believe Craig who owns and runs both CMP Racing and 125cc Sportsbikes.com is going to try and stock them so he may be worth contacting. And the 250 one won't fit, the mountings are different...
He also does Jim Lomas (JL) exhausts which range from £190-£275 - the JL single is said to give the most power to an Rs125 (though yet to see proof - but they are very well made!) and the JL twin which you like is just a modified single, it's heavier and won't give quite as much power as the single but going off what all the people who have one it's better than stock - both performance and is said to be better sounding (deeper) than the JL single.
As for fairings, some people have swapped from new to old - and it is said to be quite easy, though not just a straight swap as you'll probably need a new front sub-frame and definately headlights. If you don't want the hassle then have a look on eBay - there's often Rs125 panels going on there or ring some Aprilia specialist breakers (lots in the back of MCN BikeMart - free with MCN) as there's often seized Rs125's with v.good condition panels which are broken for salvage.
And is it not possible to salvage your current plastics - a decent sprayer should be able to patch it up and spray it for around £400 or so - it maybe a simple spray job but it will look fresh again, and a good sticker kit from the likes of Morgan Designs, Red Racing or eZ Graphics should set it off nicely if done properly. ____________________ My Bike pics - https://www.bikepics.com/members/cagivamito2001

Got an MOT before without any pillion pegs (it did have a single seat unit) and they were being very very picky so would have thought if it was a possible failure then they'd have failed it for it. |
