Planning a euro camping tour. Probebly next summer now.

A friend fancies doing the ww2 beaches and graveyards in northern france. Which sounds like a great idea.
But im planning on going a step further and going solo to colditz.

Just wondered if anyone has been.
Whats the museum like?
Whats the route like?

The route starts in the chapel, goes down about 8 feet, turns left under the armoury, then out beyond the castle walls. Good luck, old boy Thumbs Up

It's a hell of a way, but if you wanted to combine the trip into a biking holiday, just do the Black Forest in West Germany (Karlsruhe, Baden-Baden, Freiburg). A lot less distance and two holidays in one in that respect!

Haha.

Yeah its hard to get out of and the route back starts in the chapel.

Plan is to blast the miles there on motorways then plan a nice tour back.

It doesnt look that far on google maps especially for a once in a lifetime sort of sight. But ive only ever done 225 mile days so far. With being a new rider.

You were expecting answers like that from the start, weren't you Laughing

You could do the "Dambusters tour" on the way back, since you seem to (like me) be interested in the WW2 stuff:

Dambusters Tour from Colditz

The Moehnesee is quite picturesque - used to be a popular bike meeting spot on a Sunday (was a long while ago I used to go there, and from the north, so don't know what the scenery would be like along the way from the east). Couldn't tell you what the other two are like. I don't think that generally speaking it's the most scenic of areas of Germany, but you never know.

Could even do the "Market Garden" route (in reverse) after that: Arnhem, Nijmegen, Eindhoven etc. I've been to those too, but it just turned into a big piss-up so can't remember much about them Laughing

North-east of Nijmegen, there's a town called Enschede. We discovered a bar there that stocked 180 different bottled beers, and served them all in glasses with the correct brewery crest for each. There was some old Brit bike in a case on the wall. The hot food dispensing machine nearby is to be avoided though Puke Frankly, I'm surprised I remember that much Wasted

Me and my mate did Auschwitz, Colditz, Wewelsberg and, as something different, Gunther von Hagen's museum in Guben last year. Took us 10 days. PM me if you want some details
